Drove the truck for a few miles (literally 2 or 3 miles). When I returned I pulled out the tranny dip stick (engine off) to check the level. When I did, fluid shot out of the dipstick tube and all over the engine bay and manifolds (which smoked, but didn't ignite).
The truck seems to shift OK (upshift, downshift all feel fine). But clearly, something's wrong.
Fuzzy bob is right on. There is a breather on the tranny that is not doing its job. Do you know if you have a c4 or c6? Breather is in different places for each. Also with it cold how is your fluid level? If its very high the breather cant do its job.
C4. I won't be near the truck for another two weeks, but I'll check it out when I get there! Where am I looking? And is there a procedure to clean it? Just a hose?
I had an issue recently with the speedo cable filling up with tranny fluid. I wonder if the pressure build-up cause that, as well.
