Brake cable rubbing shock

It's time to do the shocks on my 01 Ranger. I was crawling around under the back of the truck and see the parking brake cable has just about rubbed a hole in the passenger side rear shock.
It doesn't look like there is any other way to move the cable.
Is this typical?
Truck is a one owner and completely stock.

Any thoughts?

Thanks pawpaw, but my search skills didn't find that thread...
I'm planning to put on some air-shocks but need to see if that cable might interfere with the rubber air bag on the shock...

I will say that it is typical. I use my 2001 Ranger parking brake all the time. A couple years ago it would not retract. Crawling underneath I found the rubber jacket worn sufficiently for water to enter and therein produce rust. The cable that is within the jacket will not slide when jammed with rust. I replaced the cable and routed it so it does not rub on anything.
