WELCOME TO FTE!!! Hang around here, you will get plenty of help. Since you are new, might want to post your city, state in this thread in case one of the "FTE Brotherhood" is close enough to you to come by and help you troubleshoot. Don't throw money at your problem right away, listen to the advice here and try it first...can save you time, money, and frustration...and you will learn TONS. I sure have.
First thing to check is your IPR spacer and tinnerman nut. It should be on there tight. If you look into the valley on top of the engine and see a nut and/or spacer, well, there's your problem. But again, make sure the nut isn't loose if it is indeed still on the IPR. Here is a thread with a pic of some stuff out of the engine, and the IPR is seen next to and below the fuel bowl on the HPOP: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-location.html Don't forget that the angle of this photo would be if you were sitting inside of the engine compartment on the passenger side with your back to the firewall (facing forward to front of vehicle). Therefore, if you are working on your truck from the front of the truck, the IPR will be pointing toward the cab and on the driver's side of the fuel bowl.
Also, poor fuel pressure will manifest itself in this way. Could be a number of things causing it either pre-pump, pre-filter, or post filter. When was the last time you've changed your fuel filter? It is supposed to be changed every other oil change. Also, make sure the fuel bowl is cleaned out underneath the filter and heater element. Grit and crud will get deposited down there and can cause problems.
If you have an air hose, remove the fuel line coming from your tank into your fuel pump (located under the drivers side door of the truck, inside the frame rail). REMOVE YOUR FUEL CAP. Then blow a few short blasts of air through the hose back toward the fuel tank. Reattach. May have crud built up in the line or on the in-tank screens.
Is the ICP connector wet with oil? Sure sign of failure, but it sounds bad already if it runs better without it. Never heard of only 1k rpm with ICP unplugged. Never tried it myself.
On the replacement PCM, are you sure it is the correct one?
Let us know regarding the IPR nut, and check the fuel filter and oil level.
the plug has no oil on it oil level is full just changed it fuel is good just replaced all filters the ipr nut is on and tight and the pcm isthe right one i had it flashed for the n wts light and worked
Thanks for updating with the fix. That is always important here as we want to know if you've solved the problem, HOW it was solved, and for others in the future they will read this thread and learn something too.
Glad to hear it was your ICP and not the IPR. IPR is just a lot more work. That $125 hit to your wallet isn't fun, but cheaper than taking it to a stealership.
