My 52 flat 8 is some times making a noise, does not sound like a rod, more of a coaking noise,on ocassion, seems to be in the top.I do not hear it at idle, and goes away when revved up.It does not have a deep sound like rods i have heard before.I am not at the point to want to do any serious engine work right now,but do not want to damage either.Experts chime in please.
No gauge, will i get an accurate reading where thecoriginal sending unit is? Have no idea of oil weight, going to change it to 30 non detergent.Bad carb, but will omewhat idle .
I hope,it,is,a sticking valve,it was previously popping some.My engine is pretty gunked up,i thought this was the oil ijtended for this engine,i am open for info.
Sounds like a noise I had,, everything was ruled out not rods mains wrist pins, none
of that, turned out to be my fibre timing gear went south. so pop the cover and
check that.
Is this an engine that was recently driven regularly, that suddenly started doing this? Or is it a barn find that has been sitting for years and you are trying to get back on the road?
What about what Josh found in his intake. It's on page 2 of my current thread about an 8ba. I have a very similar sound in my small cummins that's in my '59. Mine makes a lightweight, odd sound for a short duration in mid revs. Not there at idle, not there at speed, just like yours. Josh's picture got me thinking about my diesel, maybe he'll chime in and tell us what that bolt sounded like. It's an amazing photo for sure.
Its a thicket find, has not run in 20 years until about 2 years ago.Exhaust were rusted off at the manifold until i built a crossover this summer.I do not think it is serious, does not have a pattern to it.I have a lot of mechanical experience, just not with flathead v8s.Keep the sugestions coming though, you always can learn.!!
