my van (E250,330cui,97') make some noise while cold starting. i takes about 5 seconds and becomes more silent with every second. Sound like a metallic knocking,or hitting.
i guess it deals with the oil pressure, so i thought about hydraulic valve lifter, but the noise is too loud. now believing in the hydro chain tightener.
someone has some experience with or another idea?
maybe some explosive drawings?
I always associate that noise with the sounds of bad main bearing(s).
Once the oil starts flowing it quiets down but eventually you will hear it as you accelerate. Maybe it will be cheaper job like the tightener.
cheaper than a tightener?!
i will Need new bearings and a new crankshaft so how expensive could be a tightener?! my engine got 145t KM (not miles).
do you think a mainbearing Problem will be probably? far as i know the US army cares for the maintenance and the other two owner between army and me too...
It is defiantly oil not reaching certain bearings when cold. When the truck heats up then the oil flows better throughout the engine and is lubricating the bearings better.
