Hello Team,
Sadly, after many years of riding my F 350 dually I’m entertaining “for sale” placard on my truck. First off, this is not a “for sale” thread. I just need to get a different perspective on value of my truck. The market value is all over the place and I cannot figure out what to ask for.
For last three years or so, I have put in less than 9 K miles and I think it is time to move on (for the right price). I have a local mechanic that wants to buy the truck from me. I have no problems except I cannot figure out what to ask for it. I see some SRW 7.3 selling for $20K to $23K (at least asking) price on craigslist and EBay. My truck is in pristine condition and has been parked inside (all of 13 years), no fifth wheel and has not pulled over 4K trailer ever. It has 86K miles, no Cali smog issues (just visual unlike newer Diesels etc), no leaks….etc
Spec:
2000 Ford F 350 Lariat LE,4X4 Super Chip, DVD/TV, Navigation system with premium sound system, Dually, 5 inch exhaust, cold Air intake.
Question: Do you think I can ask 20K for it ? KBB is around 15.5K for Private and retail is close to 18K.
2wd I assume. You could ask $20K especially in the condition you say it is in, with that low mileage. You may sit on it for a while, but the right guy(or girl) who wants exactly what you have may pull the trigger. If you go $16-$18 it will sell a hell of a lot faster.
If it is in the condition you say, and I have no reason to doubt you , there are people looking for low mileage 7.3's and willing to pay for them. They are getting rarer and rarer. If you are not pressed to get rid of it I would ask what you want for it. Those under 100K mile trucks in good condition are hard to find.

Thank you. I'm not pressed on time but really do not want to give it away either. I need to put down this money for my kid's education etc.
The mechanic that I was talking to wants it pretty bad as he can bypass catalytic converter(these truck do not have CC) issues which made him sell his recent trucks.
Maybe try ebay?
Someone just sold a 2000 7.3 excursion from California (I think) on ebay for 35k.
It was posted in the Excursion forum earlier this month.
Starting price was actually 10k. I was pretty impressed to be honest. Might always try there from now on
I know you can get $20K in the Seattle area. That's not CL price... that's lot price on a rig of this caliper.
The word I'm getting from people "in the business" of having Ford fleets is this: The last great Powerstroke was the 7.3L - and many have given up on Ford. I'm seeing a whole lotta Powerstroke fleets go Cummins. I have been told repeatedly that there is a list of private-party buyers that want the 7.3L and are willing to wait until one is available.
Yup...I could easily see it for $20k. I liked the Ebay Motors suggestion. Of course, to keep from getting ripped off...make sure the money is cleared in your bank for 3-5 days, and don't fall for many of the scams like counterfeit checks, giving out your personal banking information for wires (have your bank set up the transfer instead), shipping overseas, "I'll pay more than the cost of shipping up front then you reimburse me," etc.
20k? I wouldn't consider less. Mine is a lot like yours, L99 Lariat etc. Just turned 99k. Garage kept. What would I replace it with? Today you'll get half the truck for twice as much. I think you'll miss it.
I know it's two completely different trucks but mine is at 16500 on CL for a couple months now and haven't gotten any real bites. I'm in the same situation as you. I don't need to sell it and it has 123k miles in good shape and never driven in the salt months other then one year since I've owned it. A lot of guys are looking at it like this, I could have a 2008 or a 2001 for the same price.... I would go with the 2008 too if I didnt know better
