My expedition has started popping under the drivers side, I can feel it under my feet. It isn't a rapid pop, it's like it winds up and then pops. It is a 2wd, and I can't see anything that looks broken or out of place. My normal mechanic is out of town and I'm afraid to drive it. Can anyone give me a direction to look? Thanks for any advice.
My first thought would be an issue with the driver's side half shaft. It's hard to make a clear determination without hearing it ourselves.
I agree, its hard to explain too, I say wind up not because you can hear it, but because of how often it pops, it isn't really consistent, and it doesn't vary based on road condition. I don't think speed affects it either as I've been afraid to drive since it got really loud and rattly....but yesterday I went out and just went back and forth in my driveway, and it isn't rattly, just pops...again not consistent, nothing is visibly obviously broken or out of place....I will try to post some pics in case I am completely missing something, it is the weirdest thing lol
I was wondering if ball joints would make noise like this?
Check the Transmission cross-member. That's what it was on mine. I believe Ford has a tech writeup on dropping it and putting some sort of bonding adhesive and tighten it back up.
I had something similar going on turned out to be the front sway bar end links. I replaced them and the bushings and no more poping. I know the sway bar is all the to the front of the truck but it did seam as if it was under my feet.
