Question Inconsistent Drivetrain Clunk?

After returning from a recent road trip to Alberta ( minus 30'C) my 99 f-150 has developed a clunk, happens when diving on un-even pavement the most although the grocery store speed bumps really set it off. Have also begun to notice it more when turning, any ideas?

Thanks
Colin

Thank for the reply, another inconsistency is it doesn't always seem to come from the same side or end of the vehicle, sometimes it seems like its coming from right underneath the drivers seat and other times it seems to come from the rear. I had the rear U joint replaced last spring, is it possible the front is going? As well I did a lot of driving in 4H last week with all the snow we got.

A bad u joint can telescope up and down the drive train and sound like it is coming from different locations at different times. Check all u joints. Drive shaft and axels.

Problem solved, I think, recently had new tires put on and a one of the old ones move to the spare (for size reasons) guess the shop didn't pull the spare all the way up and it was swinging quite a bit, enough so that it would occasionally bang into my straight pipes and the bottom of the bed. Snugged everything up and there doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Now that's a tough one to diagnose over the internet. Glad you found it. Properly feel a little silly. I know i would.

a little silly but at least I didn't take it into the shop and have them look at it for an hour
