My newly acquired 77 F150 with a 351M has a leaky slipping transmission. It works, but I don't know for how long. My cousin has a transmission that came off a 400 (I believe he said a Mercury Cougar, but I could be wrong). Would that fit? He said it was recently rebuilt and I could just have it, so that would be really nice! Any help is appreciated! Sorry, I am very new to Fords
Ask him what transmission it is. The 351M takes a big block bell housing. 429/460 etc works. It has to have a big block bell housing. If you get that it should be fine.
Only A/T available in 1977/79 F100/350, 1978/82 Bronco & 1980/82 F150/350 with 351M/400: C6 (17 trans pan bolt holes).
Some 1974/79 Cougar's with 400's, 1975/79's with 351M's came with C6's, while some came with FMX's (14 trans pan bolt holes).
This C6/FMX jazz also applies to 1973/76 Torino/Montego; 1973/79 Ranchero; 1977/79 LTD II (not an LTD!)/Thunderbird/Mark V cuz that's what a 1974/79 Cougar is...under the skin.
