I got my 06 F350 in March or 2012 and had one bump and that was on the
test drive. Bad battery cable left me in a parking lot for about 30 minutes.
It was an easy fix. Cleaned and reset the cable clamp that were dirty and
almost falling off they were so loose.
I recently replaced the alternator that was acting tired and will be doing
a set of batteries soon.
I really like the power and I get surprising MPG on the freeway empty.
So over all I am very happy and I think I have about 15K miles in the last year.
I love my 6.0
160k miles and counting, original head gaskets and headbolts. Tows 10k regularly and sees up to 14k trailers. I run my 8k tow tune for towing and the SRL when im not towing. I take great care of my truck, but it sees its fair share of beatings. Way more fun to drive over my 7.3 any day of the week
Still strokin thanks to FTE
Good Thread Sean,I bought my 04 350 6.0l brand new off the lot It had 300 miles on it, for starters had them grind all the spot welds that were sticking up and repaint, replaced the heads, heater core and some warrentee work completed, now the fun side, my Truck is my daily driver and my work horse and has keep me on the road safely, my dad and brother were out scouting the next hunt camp,it just rained and the road was alittle muddy some how we crossed the rut in the road and we were stuck( in our own tracks)we sleeped under some dirty horse blankits for the nite and walked to a ranger camp that was 15miles away to get pulled out ,these trucks are great and very heavy. from now on I'll stay out of the mud
I bought mine brand new in July 2005. Only warranty work was an egr valve replaced at 17k.Just turned over 60k trouble free miles. Recently deleted the egr cooler and replaced the oil cooler and switched to Delo ELC. Mainly used for pulling my toyhauler, and when my old '78 CJ5 breaks. I absolutely Love my truck!!!
Bought truck with 200k miles 4-1-12, today (8-16-13) It has 259k miles the only things that have gone wrong are typical its getting old stuff. The Beast has taken me and my kids off-road to many remote places we camp out off the trail and roll on some more. NEVER left us stranded or even concerned.
the only big bummer and mystery was when the AC went out and the truck wouldn't go, not the 6.0L fault happens with any vehicle.
I cant say how much I love this truck. I have honestly been looking around for another so when the only reason it would fail (an accident) I would have another handy.
any who rides in The Beast always admire the Comfort and Power then try to knock it down by saying "the mileage sux though huh" "NOPE hwy72mph cruise I see 20-25 np. Even when loaded down 10k trailer 85mph in Texas I was pulling 13-15mpg.
if it wasn't for this site I would have never gotten as far as I have with it!
I hoping to make this one a 1,000,000 mile 6.0L should be in about 7-10 years with my driving.
came back from a deployment to a dead battery (was told it was draining over night) parasitic draw test <0.020 mA so I was all set.
Its got 2 new batteries, new alternator, installed the AFE bladerunner intake elbow, Blue spring upgrade, 6.4l banjos, 305/65/18 BFGs (i picked up for 400 3/4 life left) zone 2.5 leveling kit, 4 Rockford speakers, Pioneer touchscreen head unit and did an oil change. XDP coolant filter.
I have had this truck since last November (traded my Raptor in for it and cut my payment in 1/2 with 1.7% APR)
the truck has never started easier than it does after the banjos, Im up to 14-15.5 MPG in town (up from 11)
dletas are 4-8 degrees, FICM is 48v even, all sensor values are in good tolerance
I purchased my truck new in September of '04. Just traded her in for an Eco Boost last Thursday. I can honestly say my 6.0 was nothing short of the best truck I've ever owned. I had 105k miles on it with the original coolers, head gaskets, etc.. I would tow in the winters on long road trips (10+ hrs) and never once did it leave me stranded or give me any of the drama I read about the 6.0
I bought my 2004 used from a guy who sold it to me right after the warranty ran out.
The deal was good and it looked like a good truck. It had a perfect report of him taking it in on all scheduled service times.
Right after I bought it I panicked when I read about everyone saying how bad of a truck it was.
But to this day (4 years later) it has run great! Never had a single problem. In fact the only problem was a leaky coolant filter hose making me think otherwise and do an EGR delete. But that was user error and a good thing in the end. FTE has taught me how to make this such a reliable truck so thanks to you guys for keeping me going!
I spoke to the guy who sold it to me a year later and told him how great the truck was. He had gone Dodge....I could tell he was missing the 6.0 and amazed it had been no problem.
Interesting Mustangmike about the Banjo Bolts. I had never heard of that...and they are cheap $11. Might dig into this some more. Thanks for the heads up!
Bought mine in March of 2012 with 98,000kms, the PO had just replaced the oil cooler, egr and headgaskets and my truck has been trouble free since. I have done some mods which have been easy and pretty cheap to do. This truck has been great and the fuel mileage has been a pleasant surprise.
Bought new in Aug '05. Still running great! Had some warranty wark done a few years back, but as it's running great, it's staying with me until I can't drive anymore.
Bought the truck with 84xxx miles on it in January of this year. Have put nearly 10000 miles on since and not a single hiccup. Did a coolant flush with just distilled water (no Restore) and swapped in Zerex EC-1 rated and my EOT/ECTs are right over each other or +/- 1 degree. I swapped out the FICM and ball joints as preventative measures and besides for oil and fuel filters that is all that I have done.
I too have had absolutely none of the drama that you read about on the 6.0. OEM EGR and oil cooler. No coolant filter. Daily driver with a fair amount of local stop and go driving. Share a driveway so I never get to plug her in in the Northeast winters and she still fires right up even at 10 degrees Farenheit. I just keep up with maintenance and drive her. Loving the truck so far.
So, I had a young man come up to me today and asked if my truck was a custom truck because of the short-bed as a DWR... You could tell that he'd liked what he saw even though he had a 3500 Chevy DRW; same color and all... Completely unrelated thought, but it reaffirmed that I have a nice truck that is kind of rare.. But, so far so good. Thanks to FTE and some how to do it youtube videos, I have done my own preventive maintenance.. (clean EGR valve, replaced serpentine belt, hooked up high idle-upfitter 4, change fuel filters). I like the big platform that she provides on the road and the AREO Turbine exhaust with the deep tone when you get on it.
