For about the last couple of weeks Ive noticed on my fuel pressure gauge that it sometimes takes it a few seconds to build up to the proper pressure before I crank up but once running its been holding steady at around 65is, give or take a couple of psi. Well today it dropped down to about 50 and went back up then it dropped down to about 20 and then came back up and started falling again so I hurriedly pulled over and shut it down. Tried to see what the pressure would build to after a few minutes and it would slowly climb to 20 or so. Had the wife come and tow me home with the Scursion and when I got home I tried it and it built up fast like normal and fired right up. Bowl filled quickly also but could not find any other things wrong so I bit the bullet and went and got an Airtech replacement. Job is pretty easy for those that have not changed one, took maybe 20 minutes. Very doable on the side of the if needed but wouldnt be very convenient. Tools needed are 3/8 and 5/16 fuel line disconnect tool, 13mm for the housing mounting nuts and a 5/16 nut driver to remove the pump from the housing. Remove the #40 20 amp fuse under the dash that feeds the fuel pump, drain the housing (6mm allen if you havent done the drain valve route), disconnect the 4 fuel lines, unplug 2 electrical plugs and then on the other side of the frame are 3 13mm nuts that hold the housing to the frame via studs. Housing then is free to drop down from underneath the truck and there are 3 5/16 screws holding the pump in the housing. Gently pry the old pump out, slide the new pump in and do the steps in reverse.Dont forget to put the 20 amp fuse back in. Prime the fuel system (I did 3 20-30 sec intervals with the key on. Having a gauge helps so Im thankful that my Glowshift gave me a heads up and I didnt damage anything else. Thanks for all the information provided by everyone on this site that allows us to fix our own stuff without having overly high repair bills. Also for a heads up I got the pump at Oreillys locally and it was 269.99 plus tax (292.27 total).
