OT-Help identifying old truck bed

I could use some help identifying an old truck bed trailer I stumbled across this last weekend. It was headed to the scraper but I talked the guy into selling it to me. It has a Dodge tailgate , steel bed. 90"L x 48"W x 14"D. I have scanned the internet looking for any truck with this bed but have had no luck. I sure hate to see any old truck parts, no matter which make, with life still in them go away for good. Like Stu has told me about rims,"grab it, someone is probably looking for it".

I haven't seen these "cone" shaped top rail supports before and hope they will help ID this bed along with the horizontal embossed bars. I don't know if the frame it's on belongs to it or not. Hopefully I can find it a proper home.

Thanks

Doug

sorry I don't recognize the bed, and those wheels don't appear to be anything special. (at least to me) what size and bolt pattern are they?

that red trailer back by the tracter sure looks nice though, does it need to find an adoptive home?

forgot to mention, does the trailer just have a solid tube axle? may be an axle off an old jeep trailer possibly?

I hear ya on the scrapping of usable parts, I've saved a few myself, and or for parts at least.

Looks like a Dodge bed to me and the tailgate proves it.

I looked at some pics of old Dodge beds, and they are notable for lack of stake posts. The outline of the fender clearly suggest late-'30's styling. So who built the really farm-ready trucks in those days? IH! Check the ribs... only one reinforcing support on the rail, maybe because it's a shorter bed? 1938 IH:

Ross,

THANK YOU!

That's it! After reading your reply I searched for and found several examples of the longer beds with the horizontal ribs and two of the rail supports just like mine. All IH trucks! Now I can move forward with finding both the tailgate and the bed proper homes. Thanks also to jmadsen,51PanelMan and tinman52 for your input. And jmadsen, the red trailer is another thread coming soon.

I hope the owner of this truck didn't drive down the road with that pitchfork in the stake pocket... It would rotate around and scratch the paint!

If you have a 2013 Hemmings truck calendar, Miss August is a '46 IHC K-2 with your bed. Glad you sorted it out. Stu

Anyone ever heard of the "Knox Box" for the IH trucks? I believe it was an option and had a diamond plate type stamped floor. I believe they came with some type of ID plate. I saw one many years ago. I don't believe they had the horizontal ribs like the one pictured here.
