Fuel Additive

Just curious as to what fuel additive you use and why?

Just had all injectors replaced about 6 months ago and wondering which is the best to use

You need to find out what caused the injector failure. Chances are it was more likely low fuel pressure, FICM, or oil related, none of which a fuel additive will prevent or cure. Of the three previously mentioned oil and fuel pressure are the MOST common, and I'd guess fuel pressure.

I ran DieselKleen Silver for years then went to Opt-Lube XPD. The down side is they jacked the price a few months back & it's spendy.

I've used both winter and summer Powerservice, the summer is in a grey bottle labeled DieselKleen +Cetane Boost, the white bottle is Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost and has an anti-gelling additive.

I also grabbed a couple of bottles of the Motorcraft stuff at the dealer's last time I was in. Went through fine, doesn't smell as bad as Powerservice and the bottle travels easier. I might buy more if I go back before I run out, if I don't then it'll be back to Powerservice because I can find it everywhere.

I've been pretty bad about how often I put additive in. Power Service's Diesel Kleen was a hassle since I had to carry a funnel and use about 1/3 qt each tank. So I bought the larger size (and then promptly stopped adding it ); but just started taking the small water bottles and putting the right dose in each, then it's a cinch to toss that in the fill before fueling up.

Personally, my opinion is we've all been chasing the reasons for our injector failures for years, and using an additive was one early solution. I think the current body of knowledge is more spot on: Fuel Pressure 1st (blue spring), FICM 2nd (batt health and Alt playing into that), and oil side last -- clean HDEO at proper pressure being top, quickly followed by proper cold starting weight for your temps.

And: monitor, monitor, monitor!

I have used Stanadyne purple ( lubricity formula ) and currently use the Motorcraft cetane boost with every fill-up.

Some of the reason definitely could be because of the switch to ultra-low sulfur diesel. Our trucks weren't "designed" to run on it. I use Power Service white during the winter and Power Service gray during the summer. It's cheap, available everywhere, and his all the properties you need in a fuel additive. The main reason I use the additive is because it helps to "lubricate" the fuel and prolong injector life.
