Talking 06 6.0 Advice

Hey all,
I bought a lemon truck in georgia last year it didnt even make it home before 2 injectors died and it wouldnt tow my jeep cherokee any further
Now after replacing 4 total along with the oil cooler, egr delete, 4" turbo back exhaust, and as of this month 2 brand new HPOP's I am asking what should go wrong next if anyone can guess? LOL

Truck Specs
2006 F-350 4 door dually Tow Boss XLT with 150k
Xtreme Diesel egr delete
APE Cold Air intake
MSRB 4" turbo back
Evo Edg Programmer probed in as well

It will do 7.5 in a quarter on econo tune and have gotten according to the Ford computer 19mpg with cruise set at 55.
Also whats the biggest size tires I could use on the dually rear before they rub?
Any advice of rear Wheel spacers? Pro? Con?
Whats the cost of re-gearing the front and rear? and is it worth it?

Thanks for any advice fellas!!!!!

I just dumped my 06 with 73k miles on it, traded it for a new 6.2 gasser

motor/turbo was blowing radiator fluid

when i tried to go over 60mph the motor would start to stall

had to cycle the key 5 times at least to get it to start then it took forever to warm up, (ficm?)

sometimes the entire instrument panel would go out

sometimes heater wouldnt work

fuel gauge wasnt working

so... gl

As with most 6.0's that tow if you want to keep it healthy you'll need to do all the mods that go with the 6.0L. Studs/gaskets/egr del/oil cooler/coolant filter/tuner/gauges/regulator spring/fuel additive etc.
Without towing you can get away with stock sometimes. Once you get it hot by towing all bets are off. Do it right or sell it. IMO

For the 06 change the standpipes and dummy plugs to the updated parts as the original ones are known to fail and cause hot no starts. With you having had injectors fail I would do the fuel regulator blue spring upgrade which increases the fuel pressure by 10 PSI, the most common cause of injector failure is low fuel pressure. Switch to a full synthetic 5W-40 oil and make sure you are only using OEM/Racor oil and fuel filters and OEM air filter and make sure you have the OEM oil filter housing cap. Don't go cheap on the maintenance or you will pay big time down the road, keep up on the maintenance schedule to the letter. Next keep the electrical system in tip top shape, always change the batteries in pairs, low system voltage is what kills the FICM. Lastly get yourself some gauges that read live data like scan gauge II, Dashboss for IOS or torque for android so you are not flying blind and they are instrumental in diagnosing problems with these trucks.

I would guess that if your timing 1/4 miles, studs will be coming soon.

But,, I disagree with the lemon truck statement. I think you bought a used truck. If it was in tip top,, the previous owner prob would've kept it.

Brakes are prob up also.

2 hpop's??????? Um,,, If this is true,,, hate to say it, but you prob got took. In an 06 that is. Hell, I've dropped mine on the ground before, n it's still going with almost 700k.

Some great advice in previous posts. But if you wanna play hard with your truck,,, better have your wallet out. If the oil isn't changed on schedule,,, the injectors will be jumping outta the truck. Just some thoughts.

Welcome to our world!!! Lol

7.500 in a quarter mile and 19mpg?...Awesome! Whoever is working on your truck must have stacked those oil pumps .

A 8,000lb truck turning a 7.5 in a 1/4mi would be making 4,388 horsepower. Maybe that was a typo?

Sorry for the mis-info on the 1/4 mile I have never checked that it is 7.5 0-60 time,And yes both Hpop's I have done along with the oil cooler at the same time as the EGR delete I use my Edge programmer as a diagnostic tool as well since it has all the guages on screen and monitor my EGT's with it as well,I dont tow that often yet simply cause I havent bought a large enough trailer to use for work,I would like to hear more about the Fuel Regulator and Coolant filter upgrades I havent heard anything about these before.....

Ahh. 0-60 @ 7.5 sounds beter . Can you see FICM output voltage with your edge? If not there's a fairly quick way to check it with a meter. Test is in the Tech Folder.

If the FICM is ok I'd check fuel pressure next. The "blue spring" for the fuel pressure regulator isn't really a "mod" it was an update from Ford to address weak springs/lower pressure on some trucks. It's a good idea for any truck in my opinion. End result is it often raises fuel pressure 5-15psi. It's availabe from Ford and most aftermarket suppliers. Again, there's a thread in the Tech Folder.

The idea with the coolant filter is to keep any trash that might be in the cooling system out of the oil cooler. With the OC having the smallest passages in the entire system, it sort of becomes the filter. Every diesel place has a kit or You can put one together yourself. I understand most NAPA stores have all the parts. The kits are often billet aluminum and look nice and it's an easy install. A few considerations are the size of the hoses, wether it's plumbed in as a bypass filter or full filtration, and the filter type- spin on cartridge or washable/reusable.

Thanks Rusty thats some cool news on both things and the problem with my truck was fixed with the double HPOP installation but I put a new FICM in as well,I am planning on calling the mechanic tomorrow anyway(Hes a Ford 6.0 freak like me and has a truck that looks just like mine)and I will ask him about both the spring and the filter since when the front HPOP went it created some metal shavings then helped kill the rear HPOP but the oil cooler screens caught them as you pointed they are the catchall but was a large cost on labor due to pain of getting at it

I've never heard of a double High Pressure Oil Pump set-up, are you talking Low Pressure Oil Pump and High Pressure Oil Pump? I think we all were assuming you had just replaced the HPOP 2x.

On the Blue Spring (fuel pressure upgrade), it's easy enough that even I could do it. Riffraff diesel has a good price on the spring and o-ring and new brass plunger (and some other parts you don't need), but Extreme Diesel has just the spring and the main o-ring (seals the regulator cover to the unit) for under $30...
