For a 56 F100 three speed manual transmission, what is the proper color. I know that engine and bellhausing are yellow. Is transmission itself also yellow or painted cast color?
The 56 oil bath air cleaner that i have has a 3/4 inch oblong hole on the top off to one side, and two small screw size holes on either side of the oblong hole. It looks like an original hole but I cant'd find any information on what goes in it? Any ideas? Vent tube?
I expect an attempt to vent some engine blow by into the induction system. Kinda like an early attempt at PCV, only not positive. Back when, these old engine filled the engine compartment and interior with crankcase fumes when the engines got tired and sloppy, so folks tried to capture those fumes. I've seen dozens of such 'rigs'.
I would expect the tranny to be natural or black, possibly red oxide. I don't remember them being painted. Ford did not waste paint. But Abe has an original, he probably is correct.
OK this makes sense. I have ocntinued looking through pictures and the consensus on tranny seems to be yellow or black. I noticed "Earls World" is black. They probably came both ways.
Thanks for the input on the air cleaner. I think we will just weld it closed and call it a day.
