1954 223 engine color needed

I have a 1954 f100 with a 1956 223. I need to know what the factory paint color or colors are for a 1954 223. I think the 1956 engine was originally painted yellow. I want to go back with the 1954 paint colors. I have searched the forums and only found 1953 & 1956 engine colors info.

All 1954 truck engines were red, despite what that chart said on the previous link. I think the chart is for Canadian trucks. Note the way they spelled color (colour).

Yes, it is red, trust me, all '54 truck engines, V-8 and 6 cyl,, were red. It was the first year for the Overhead valve engine, and they were red.

How about the air cleaner (oil bath), is it black or engine color?

Abe, the engines may have been red, but the valve cover was a different color.

This is the system Ford used from 1952 (first year for the OHV Lincoln Y and the OHV I-6) thru 1967 to quickly ID what engine was in a particular vehicle.

There used to be a booklet passed out by Ford dealers to independent garages and body shops with all the combos. It was updated yearly. No, I don't have one, but I wish I did.

In 1968, Ford painted all their engines Ford Corporate Blue.

OLE' GREEN: All the air cleaners were painted black from the 1930's thru 1967.

I was wondering the same thing!! Most Ford motors I have seen in the 1950's have different colored valve covers than the motor block. I don't know how accurate they stayed with the color schemes on these motors, since most of them were in restored cars & trucks. I started thinking about other things attached to the motor. I am sure all the accesseries were painted black, including the air cleaner, but I have seen some painted the motor color. Was the transmission bellhousing painted black or the motor block color? I'm thinking motor block color, but not sure.

Right you are Bill,
The valve covers in 1954 were argent (silver). And, yes, the air cleaner was black along with the other accessories: generator, and so on.
