Engine Color '64 292?

After searching the net, and asking around, it is clear that there is no clear conclusion on what color the engine, valve covers, and air cleaner are on the 1964 292 found in an F100.

I believe the block to be black, valve covers red, and air cleaner black. Could those in the now here at FTE please confirm or deny this? Also, any links to images of a factory detailed mill would be great.

If I am going to clean up parts of the engine and re-paint, why not do it right?

Thanks everyone!

I believe you are right , Engine block and air cleaner black and valve covers I was told is more of a red /orange. I do know that Eastwood sells the right paint color listed as paint for our year truck. Even though my truck is a 250 I think it is the same. There is a post on here some where that discusses this topic.

Thanks suprredon for the link. Just read all 8 pages spanning 4 years. Fortunately, ’64 seems to be the most agreed upon year, with only conflicting reports on valve cover finish and a tiny question on air cleaner finish. I posted to the thread and will be interested to see what others have to say. I am surprised the truck colors are so much of a mystery, the car colors are fairly well nailed down.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction,
Jim

Wow! Posted in the thread in the link and didn't really get much of a definitive response. I think I will assume the black block and red valve covers is the way to go.

My 64 came with a black block and red valve covers; I assume it was unmolested but not sure. the oil bath air cleaner was missing when I got the truck but the original oil bath air cleaner on my 65 is black.

Block should be black, valve covers are "Ford Red" and the air cleaner is black. Trust me! If you can't find Ford Red anywhere else, try Tractor Supply.

Lots of folks don't like the black block as it makes it harder to spot oil leaks and such. Many use the Ford Red on the blocks. Looks good, but not correct for the trucks.

I actually like the black blocks. They don't show dirt as quick and look kinda cool. I am not doing a show piece by any means, just figure if I am giving it a clean up and am spraying a little paint, why not the right color?

Thanks again,
Jim

Media? Do you mean to say there's a tiny news crew inside? Film at 11!

Actually, it's (video) tape at 11. Film is only used these days for movies and expensive commercials.

True, but whenever there's an event here in LA LA Land (usually a bank robbery, brush fire or a missing child), a local news reporter (Brits call 'em 'news readers') chimes in during a commercial break and says Film at 11!

Could also be Film at 4, 5 or 6, depending on what time a the day/night the event occurred. I've been watchin' TV since Truman was prez, I have never heard 'Video at 11.'
