F1 Hood Hinges...Eliminated?

I searched the forum and didn't see anything so I'll throw this out. Has anyone on here put newer style hood hinges that have no springs on their truck? I need to finish the redo on the upper and lower latch panels on my truck. Currently is riding fine with a hidden latching system (bungy cord!!). I'm thinking about changing the latching system on the front to a hidden pin down type that I'll have to fab up. This type of setup would totally eliminate the chance of a hood flying up driving down the road. I'm not thinking of having hood pins sticking out of the top...lol....there would be some type of almost hidden finger pull between the grill bars that has a small spring to keep the pin engaged. It's a simple thing I'm talking about AFTER its fabbed....hard to explain and design. Anyway, in doing this I thought of how nice it would be to have a smooth opening hood with a discrete prop rod. Anyone have any pics or info?

Thanks!

Mine had springs and it is a 52. I think that they all did. I never could find any alternatives and am attempting to make a reverse tilt hood.

I've given some thought to replacing the stock springs with much lighter springs. Like many, the hood wants to pop up at the cowl and I'm always pushing it down no matter how I adjust it. I'd use the stock hood latch, properly adjusted. It may need a prop rod to hold the hood up, however.

This could be too radical for some but this worked for me.

No springs but does have a hood prop.

The latch is out of a Dodge Van and the tilt and prop hardware I fabricated. The blue hood is not mine but will show how someone else flipped their hood.

I am working on mine and wouldn't have even attempted it except for seeing 48 Steel's hood. I think you could sell your kit! Thanks for sharing!!

This is defiantly what i've been looking for. Is there anyway you would take some measurements of the frames and mounts. Thank you for your time.

Our youngest son said the same thing about selling a kit. Been there and done that I'm retired and want to keep it that way. I did make it so that it would work on a stock hood with little modifications.

Guys!!! after three weeks of comparing and studying designs I have had an great idea on how a reverse tilt hood can be achieved on an early F-1 without the need to buy a kit or even build frame/linkage. I am not sure when I can start this project on my truck, but when I do I will show the design. Which is, super easy to duplicate and will cost under $30 to build.

I'm looking into eliminating my sprung lifts too, the master cylinder power booster is in the way of the left side. would like to keep the hinges, it shuts and latches with ease, just wanna switch to gas shock lifts on both sides but I'm not paying some $160 for a weld-on kit from ebay, unless it's a perfect setup of lift and strength/alignment.

so what happened to that "week" they gave you?!?!?

I have a 1950 f1, never had prob's with hood popup. But my 53 does at the rear of hood. So I see where all is coming from wanting to eliminate this, just saying no prob. with the 50.
I do have a ? that's changing the subject somewhat. On the 50 I'm wanting to remove the hood, and was wandering, is it best to remove the 4 bolts, 2 each side, on firewall, or the one on each hinge, where hinge connects to hood? I have 3-4 old hoods lying around and they all have the hinges on them. This makes me think it's easier to unbolt the 4 on firewall. Any feedback would be appreciated.
