Hello. I'm in the middle of replacing my front parking brake cable. It had snapped right behind where the tang slides into the equalizer. After removing the lower dash, the cable and parking brake assembly. I rotated the lower pawl back to disengage the cable, stuck a punch in through the hole, and reinstalled everything.
Here is the issue. Of course the punch popped out and now the cable is just a hair too short. Any suggestions, other than redo it?
I was thinking if I loosen up the rear cables at the drum I might be able to stretch it that last little bit to fit?
Any tips/hints/help would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks
That is how it stands now Alloro. The cable is not connected to the equalizer at the moment. Since the punch came out, the lower pawl rotated back down to the lower position with the cable in it. I think that is why there isn't enough clearance to attach it to the equalizer. I guess I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and remove the pedal once again, rotate the lower pawl, punch it and try to install. Thanks for the suggestion though.
This is the second parking brake cable I've tried to replace on my truck. Why do they have to be such a pia?
