My HPOP started leaking and left a good side puddle below my truck. So I checked the bolts to make sure they were tight and they were slightly loose, like not even a quarter turn loose. I tightened them up, took the truck for a good long drive and verified no more leaks The next day, I wash off the engine with some B33, Simple Green, and my pressure washer. I made sure and let it dry in the sun for a few hours. The truck started, ran, and drove for a good 5 or 10 miles then stopped. Cold like someone turned my key off...had to have it towed home.
I tried and tried to restart with no luck...
- I unplugged the ICP sensor, no change
- Swapped CPS, no change
- Found a blown 20 amp fuse, replaced, no change.
Looking at my Scangauge, no matter the truck doesn't show to be building any ICP. According to the PCM atleast...
To make sure I was actually getting oil pressure, I cracked a fitting loose on the HPX and oil came pouring out as soon as I tried to start it. So I know the HPOP is working and getting oil.
Clay mentioned checking the IPR which I'll do either tonight or tomorrow evening then report back...
Sorry to hear this, TD. I know how much you put into your truck. If I can be of any assistance such as rides and a helping hand to turn a wrench or hand you a beer at the very least while you're wrenching, please feel free to call me. I think you have my number.
Is your IPR in good shape? Possibly that 'tin nut' that goes on the back has come loose and fallen in to the valley? It's worth checking I'd say. Also, are you sure your batteries are "up to snuff"? Low voltage means the IDM won't fire and therefore your injectors won't either.
What are the ICP and IPR readings while cranking? RPM reading?
Since it died like the key was shut off right after power washing, I'd look at the IPR pigtail wiring first to make sure you don't have chaffed wires or brittle insulation that's causing a short to ground and keeping the IPR from functioning. Might also check the fuel bowl heater wiring and fuse since that might have been hit by the high pressure water as well.
Sounds like an IDM failure to me. Do you have anyone near you who will let you swap theirs into your truck so you can try it out? It's pretty easy to get to, behind the driver's side wheel well cover. I wish I were closer, I have a spare we could try out. I'd be willing to ship it to you if you need me to. Let me know.
HPOP is building pressure, but the consensus seems to be that the IPR is the problem. I got off the phone with Tailgate77478 and he has an old IPR and a socket he's willing to loan me to try and see of that's the problem.
Should have an answer hopefully late Friday evening if all goes well...
You mentioned taking the plug loose on the HPOP and cranking it to see oil come out. Did it ooze out or shoot out? I would think you would be looking for 500psi screaming out of the loose plug and into your neighbors yard. Just a thought...
I'm thinking IPR as well with the ICP commanding a duty cycle and getting no response from the HPOP. Seems logical.
On another note, I'll let you drive mine while you figure yours out if you put all the parts on that I have on the shelf!!! Folks would really have to look closely to know it wasn't yours!
Sometimes it just takes time to get the oil back where it belongs... vid below is after draining oil system and refilling. I had a bad IPR and it did precisely what you are describing. Truck go, then truck no-go with no or super-low ICP. We pulled the IPR and cleaned it... and that got me going until a new IPR arrived with yellow tape.
