Yesterday morning when I started her up the fuel gauge shot to above the full line. Thing is I had just above a quarter tank from the night before. Half way through the day, stopping and starting the truck, the gauge showed me the true reading just above the quarter tank line but only for a little while and then went back up to above full. Today she's still above full with no change at all. I added 5 gallons just a short while ago to see what would happen but nothing, still showing full to the gills even though I knoow at most I have just under a half a tank.
So.... What you're reeeely saying is you've chosen your first mod. The in-tank should be one of the very first anyway. You can try to read the voltage off the sender (I don't have the schematic with me right now to know which wire)... or drop the tank, do the Hutch/harpoon mods, and check out that sender by hand.
I was so, so hoping my foot would taste better than it actually does. Yes, I guess I have.
Well you should have taken a bath and stepped in a pile of sugar first
Yeah, it's got to be something up with the sender or float. Sounds more electrical to me, as the float shouldn't get stuck high, then drop, then back high again...
I called Ford, lowest walk out price (tax included) is $496.60. Hmmpff.
So the tank mods do what exactly, bypass the sending unit or the float or what exactly? And if I do the in tank mods will I still need to replace the sending unit?

Ford will not sell the sender for a diesel tank separately so that is the entire pickup assembly.
I'll have to try to find the P/N but the sender from a gasser(same tank size) will work, and you can purchase them separately. Basically just have to drill your rivets on the diesel pickup and bolt on the gasser in it's place.

Really? I just got the whole pickup assembly from my local dealer for $275.
496 is LIST price according to the invoice they gave me. I do get a discount through my shop though so that could be why.
From Tousley it's $323.32, no sales tax, plus about $12.00 shipping.
The same dealer I called yesterday with an additional FTE member 30% discount now comes out to somewhere around $360.00.
Yep. It's time. Mine had a lot of surface rust, cleaned it best I could but still sticks at times. Didn't have down time to search, and R&S Ford blew me out of the water with thier price. Didn't know about the gasser option. Just be ready when you drop the tank.

The gas sender is only about $130...a few rivets and you just saved around $200.
