This is the correct area. Welcome.
The hissing noise at the FPR is normal. Your pump should sound the same as before, you may want to keep an eye on that for the next few days and see if things return to normal.

Welcome to FTE. Your in the right place. The fuel pump always makes a sort of buzzing sound. As for the fuel bowl, you are probably hearing it refill as I asume you drained it to change the filter. If it was leaking you'd know it.

I just took it to a "diesel performance shop" here where i live for a full diagnostic. They said the truck was pretty healthy other than the aih relay being out, which i replaced. I KNOW something is up though- black resdue/sediment in degas tank, coolant leaking from thermo housing and lower elbow oring, really dusted boots/engine bay, some type of flyid leaking off of starter/ tranny area, doesnt start as crisp, seems like she doesnt stand up like she used to. Now im far from a mechanic but for me to notice all that and them say noothing is wrong but aih relay and need a coolant flush seems odd. Osther than finding a new shop, any help would be much appreciated as i need to get back to work and work 1600 miles away!

They said oil cooler was okay and turbo was okay. Injectors, gpr and gps tested okay...

Does the black sediment in the degass bottle look like soot? If so you likely have a cracked injector cup letting exhaust gasses into the cooling system.

As for the noise, it could be the bowl filling back up, but keep an eye on it over the next few days and see if it improves.

Fluid leak on starter and tranny is most likely oil in the valley of the engine. Look under the turbo with a light and see if there any puddles there. If so soak them up spray with a degreaser and give a good rinse. See where the oil is coming from. Mine needs a "Valley Bath" about every 18 mouths....

I cleaned the everything on the truck for like two days straight before i took it ro the shop lol and i havent seen anything major just coolant leaks i notice so far. shop said sludge was from the left over casting sand and to flush and get a filter installed. i also noticed a decent amount of black sludge/slime on intake and a little on the turbo wheel (i think thats just ccv gas- plan on kit and upate to a better intake. i work in ND so the truck runs 16 hours of every day of the year and i drive it like i stole it sometimes. also- its a six speed manual if thats matters? White smoke on start up especially if below freezing out too...

AIH relay bad? Really? That thing almost never is commanded to turn on, and a lot of us delete. Maybe look for another shop.

The only reason i thought to keep it around is if it helps when its -30 and my truck idles for an hour a day? If it doesnt help in those conditions i will most likely delete. Thanks for any and all help!

Just to update, the pump sounded normal again in a day of driving. perhaps it was air in the system from the fuel filter change? Not sure but shes running fine now
