Truck is jerking on Acceleration

I know, there was a similar thread "truck bucks on hard acceleration" the problem is similar, but quite different.

When I accelerate hard, the truck bucks. The truck does not stall, it just bucks and then its fine.

Now, I know this is going to happen.

When I slow down, I can feel the truck shudder and then the brakes clamp down. You can tell that the truck is going to buck. If I go from pressing the brake to pressing the accelerator quickly, it bucks. If I remove my foot from the brake, wait a couple of seconds, and then accelerate, the truck doesn't buck. Completely new brakes were installed 15,000 miles ago, and the brake fluid level is ok. Could it be the brakes? I read that it could be the driveshaft. I checked it and it appears to be ok, or can you tell with a visual examination? Thanks.

That almost sounds like wheel hop/axle wrap. Did this problem start all of a sudden or has it always been there? You might want to check the U-bolts for the rear diff to make sure they're tight.

To check the driveshaft you really need to get under the truck and work the driveline around looking for slop in the U-joints and slip yoke.

Things to check:

Vacuum leak in the brake booster?

Carb adjustment?

Colossus, does the problem you are having seem engine related? I guess I was under the impression you were describing something brake/suspension related.

I recalibrated the carb and it doesn't do it anymore. It sure did seem brake related which threw me offtrack.

It seems to be getting more complicated. Last night, it stopped doing it. All day today it did it, about 90% is slack in the trailer hitch. But there's more. If you make a complete stop and put the brake to the floor, let off and then acceleratee - it won't do it. If you half(expletive) the brake - meaning you don't push it in all the way, and then accelerate, it will do it.

Have you checked the distributor vac advance and mech adv mechanism for proper operation? If your distributor pickup module is bad or loose it can cause this also. Does it do it without the trailer?

I assume you have read the other posts here and have checked out the ignition module.

It doesn't seem to do it nearly as much without the trailer. So I am hoping its related to that. The distributor, wires, plugs, are new.
I'll have to check the distributor, the vac advances and the ignition, but I haven't had any other problems relating to these going out. I did notice that occasionaly the truck does stumble a little, so I am hoping its all carburetor.

Well, I just did some more work on it. I took out any cargo that could possibly make noise and the trailer hitch. It still does it, but only while it goes through its spell of rough idling. The rough idle lasts between 5 and 10 minutes and I figured out how to get around it through braking. The jerking isn't as severe without the trailer hitch, so it seemed to magnify the problem. I did do some more adj. to the carb and that helped a little bit too. I am just going to have to watch it for a while and see if it gets better or worse.
