I have been hanging around 25% idle time on my truck but really cant figure out why. Well now it is really cold and am idling more. 26% now and climbing. Its so cold the truck drops out of operating temp. My previous half dozen or so haven't done that. Does the dealer do the high idle thing and if its done by a good outside tech does it effect warranty? Does the truck figure idle time in telling you to change oil? Mine is changed at 5000 miles.
I seem to hang around that 25% mark too. I don't worry to much about it tho. I change my oil somewhere between 5000 - 7500 miles, depending on how it has been used. During the winter months, I use the 5000 mile interval cuz it idles more and doesn't get to full op temp as much. During the warmer months when I'm going four wheelin more and draggin the 5er around, I usually go with a little higher mileage interval. All depends on how I use it. I'm not a fan of having the computer tell me when to change the oil. It makes me paranoid that FOMOCO would use that against me as neglecting service on my vehicle.
I don't think the oil reminder warning is sophisticated enuf to use the idle time, towing, etc. I think it's pretty much a mileage counter. I could be wrong, but it doesn't matter to me because I don't rely on it anyway.
I spose most any dealer would be willing to install the SEIC, (secondary elevated engine idle) for a fee of course. I think that's what it's called anyway.
