Interesting license plate

Hi,

Just saw a guy in a Tundra today. Plate read 4N JUNK.

Not sure if he lost a bet or just regrets the purchase!

Is the Tundra even built overseas?

^I don't believe so. Toyota has been making vehicles in the U.S. for decades. Just had to read "how toyota became #1" for class. A very interesting read, for any of you readers.

Tundra: Currently Texas. Prior Indiana and Texas. Not sure about early ones.

I bought a Toyota truck 30years ago and they said it was "made in America". I checked and what they did was ship the entire truck from overseas, along with bed, and once here they assembled bed on chassis. Hence,,made in USA. What crap!!
I know nothing at all about what goes on now, I dont care but I thought I`d share my experience.

That was the trick 30 years ago. It's a little more involved now, but afaik, drivetrain stuff still comes in assembled, and they put the rest of it together here. ymmv.

I think the bed installation thing was a "letter of the law" deal to avoid import restrictions. The next step was the Nummi plant in Fremont, and from there other plants like Texas etc.

Ford did the same thing with the Couriers, except at least on the first generation ones they made the bed in the US too.

Oh, and I found this plate last time I was in Idaho. Why someone would have this as a plate is beyond me-

Hey now!... I resemble that remark!...

I have to admit though, I'm at a loss about that SARIN plate... That pic was taken in Idaho Falls - you gotta be a nutcase to live there...
