Does anyone know why the Ford manual says not to use chains on the 20 inch Michelin ATX A/T2 upgrade wheels? I'm talking about using Super Z8 SZ468 cable chainsets. There seems to be plenty of room including when wheels are turned hard in either direction, and those tires need next to no clearance anyway.
There are cable chains made, but my understanding is that there is less tire sidewall and Ford is concerned with improperly installed chains and the impact they can have on the tire rims.....
I went with the 18" tires and rims when I bought mine since I hunt and camp with my truck and it is not if, it is when I will need to chain up all 4 tires to get back out of some remote area.
Talk to a good tire shop, like LesSchwab and they can let you know what options you have, and any risk to the tire, wheels, or truck.

Les Schwab sold me a set of cable chains for my 20" michelins. They came out and looked at the tire and didn't say anything. I've yet to need them but nice to have.
Every set of cable chains I have seen I would,nt think would hold up the the stress of what these trucks would put them through if trully stuck and needed them.
I have used real sure enouph chains on radial tires for years with no issues before, you have to get them TIGHT and keep them TIGHT.
