1965 352 valve cover color

So the the valve covers are gold on the 352. This new 65 I'm working on is 100% original but the valve covers are an off white cream color. They have never been repainted and seem to be original. Was this possible? I have seen other trucks with this color also and I read that this was a way of identifying which engine it was back in the day.

Also what filter type air cleaner will work on this 2V. 360 - 390??

Any 360-390 air cleaner housing should work, along with just about any FE or other Ford air cleaner housing from that era or close. They all have the same large diameter mounting, so they work for 2bbl and 4bbl carbs also.

Just be sure the linkage and choke etc clears.

Later ones will have a place to connect your crankase air supply for the PCV system.

It has one of those cheap chrome after markets on it with these cheesy looking plastic spacers on it. Gotta go. Thanks for info.

So what else is new? When one owns one of these trucks for 44 years (1965/2009), one knows the gold valve cover color begins to fade within a short time. Engine heat is usual cause.

1965/67 F100/350 352's came with an oil bath air cleaner as standard equipment, but in 1967, a dry type (paper filter) air cleaner was first offered.

The 1968/76 F100/350 360/390 dry type air cleaners are different than 1967. 1967 has a snout on it without a flapper valve. 1968/76's have a snorkel w/a flapper valve and vacuum motor.

Bottom of snorkel has a round hole in it. 1968/76's have a steel hot air tube that bolts to the right exhaust manifold, then it curves upward, fits into the hole.

Find a 1961/64 Galaxie 352/390 air cleaner, fits right on. These are far more common than the 1967 truck only air cleaner.

Ed: OP is a CA resident, was his truck sold new in CA? PCV mandatory in all 1961 and later sold new in CA vehicles. CA oil bath has a nipple at the top for PCV hose.

Dry type PCV air cleaners either have a curved elbow made as part of them, or a plastic nipple that clips on for the PCV hose to clamp onto.

Was this color used on any ford valve covers? Truck or car. I was just thinking that maybe engine was swapped out.

Color looks just like my '65's valve covers did in 1981 when I rebuilt the engine.

Truck is 47 years old, do you think the gold covers would look like they did in 1965?

See if you can find a 1965 Galaxie/LTD/Fairlane/Falcon/Mustang with a 289 2V, preferably in a junkyard. Are the valve covers shiny gold or have they faded to an off white?

1965 289 2V's (VIN engine code C = 5th digit) have black engines with gold valve covers, same as 1965 F100/350 352's.
