bad motor mount?

I have a 2000 f350 with 7.3l with manual tranny. When I release clutch it feels as if motor is torqing and lifting. I just changed the tranny mount. It looks as thought the motor mounts dont have alot of room for failure. I put a piece of wood and jack under motor behind oil filter and lifted it. The motor and truck were rising at same time. I may be wrong but those mounts are two u shaped pieces of steel. One going to motor one to frame and rubber in the middle.

I have chocked the front wheels and put parking brake on and lifted hood to watch if motor rises when engaging clutch. It does not appear to lift much. but when driving it feels like its spinning 90 degrees. When releasing the throttle, it feels as it sits back down. I just greased my front drive shaft yoke joint to see if thats the problem. However it feels like alot more than that. almost as if it winds up and then unwinds when released throttle.

Has anyone ever worn a motor mount? If so how did feel when it was bad? and how did you diagnose it. So what I'm wondering is, if those pieces of rubber can give that feeling even though they look ok when not running. Thanks for your input.

I do not drive a hand shaker but some will chime in soon.
I have not read on here about any motor mounts being changed or to be a problem on these trucks.Maybe if someone pulled the motor they may have changed them while they were there?

I dont see one of those mounts going bad.
What makes you say you "feel" the motor torque twisting? Does the whole truck rock to one side while this is going on? Those mounts have almost no play in them... like you could lift the truck with the motor hoist rings and not get much movement from the mounts.

That's exactly what I Was thinking by examining them and doing the jacking of the motor to see it all go up at once.
What I am experiencing is like a surging/thrusting after a pause or slip, or something similar to what a motor mount would feel like when it's let go. For example: from a dead stop, I release clutch and it grabs. Then you push throttle and it tightens then it feels as though something in the drive line is shifting then you feel movement. If you release throttle, the opposite happens.

Check your u-joints. Both ends of the drive shaft.

In april, the drive shaft had 3 new joints, support bearing and balancing done. This was unrelated to this porblem at the time.

On another note, tonight I get off highway to smell a real strong scent of brakes. I pull over to find my rear drivers side smoking. Parking brake was not on. So caliper must have froze. Never a dull moment lately.

I've broken a few motor mounts in trucks in my life with manuals. Depending which mount is torn the shifter will either go toward the passenger side or drivers side when accelerating or letting off the gas. The shifter will move up to a foot or more if a mount is completely tore out. If a mount is partially tore the shifter can move anywhere between 4-8 inches under accel or decel.

Now if your trying to do burnouts and the truck is wheel hopping and the shifter is bouncing around all over the place, that happens, it will break parts. lol

I find 2-3" or so of movement of the shifter under normal driving is "normal".
