Anyone know the torque specs for front and back rancho 9000xl? Really want to know the front top spec with the rubber bushings that squish flat the most. The rest ill make tight.
I used the air ratchet to loosen the bolts on the rear...so they are not torqued too tight. That being said I have no idea my shocks came without any directions at all. I just tightened them back with the same air ratchet to tighten them and cranked half a turn or so for good measure. The front shock stud was tight (IMHO) after I saw 6 threads on the stud...my 2 cents...

You can see six threads on front stud? Can you verify that for me? I stopped at three because it was really tight and didnt want to snap anything.
The stock shocks are horrible.Hardly any rebound at all ,very slow, and thats only after 2600 miles...
Sure, I have to install the last shock today (I had 1 come in bad). Actually, I expected the worst pulling my old shocks off but they work perfectly. Go figure, either way the ride is amazing withe the 9k xls!
Yup! Although closer to 5 threads showing...and now that I have all 4 shocks installed setting of 5 in front and 3 in rear the truck rides much better. However , the front rocks slightly which I am not used to...
Ran mine unloaded today at 7 front 4 rear... Is 5 maybe to low for these heavy engines and your rocking cause of it?Idk,just thinking out loud...I think ill keep mine where it is.Happy medium.Ill prolly stiffen it when pulling the travel trailer..

Got my Rancho 9000xl's in today to replace the junk 5000s that I bought a few weeks ago and already had 2 to collapse. I can only get 4 threads to show without feeling like I'm going to break something as well. With the 5000's I had 6 showing, but they had rubber bushings. Maybe these red poly bushings are stiffer? Either way I think I'm gonna leave mine at 4 for now and might try to tighten them once more. But 3 is super tight and 4 I thought was going to break my new 19mm ratchet wrench. Thoughts everyone?

This novel continues! I took off one of my Rancho 5000 shocks and attempted to install the new Rancho 9000xl shock. Unfortunately the top mount on the shock doesn't fit. It has a steel sleeve inside the bushing which will not allow to slide on the post. Is this steel sleeve suppose to come out before installation? I reinstalled the old rancho shock until I can call Rancho when they are open. Any input? It's the rear shock by the way. Both new ones for the rear wouldn't fit on the mount post.

Thanks all!
You may have to spread the mount a bit to get the shock, with the spacer, in there. That is, if your talking about the rear shock as I think you are. Both my RS9000's went right in, so maybe the factory tightened your shock a little too tight...

Yeah that's not going to work. It almost appears you would have to remove the steel sleeve for it to work. I noticed the RS5000 and the OEM motorcrafts both don't have the steel sleeve in them on the top mount. I played with one shock for almost an hour until my arms were gave out from trying to mount it. It goes over the threads fine, but will not pass over the lip on the shock mount that the shocks rests on.
