I have a 1999 F150 4X2 4.6l with a 4R70W Transmission. I need to replace the transmission but the only info I am getting is that only the one from a 1999 F150 or F250 will work. Is this correct? If not what other years or models can I use? Is there maby a diffrent year I can use and just have to swapout the wire harness?
Thanks in advance, any help at all is much appreaciated!
The main issue is the speed sensor method as well as the harness plugup.
They made them different so you can't get into trouble as one reason..
It's difficult to cross over and have everything work out.
Have a reputable rebuilder do the trans and not have these issues along with a used transmission.
If there is a problem you still don't know what's what.
With a rebuild you at least have some warrenty time.
The time and possible hassle you save about equals the extra cost of a rebuild, in the end.
Good luck.
If the issue is in hard shifting, trans light on. If you use lucas with your fluid it will shift fine again. I know a few people and read of many who have had trans problems like this as myself in my 99. They had theres rebuilt and still had this problem. Ran lucas in mine and it shifted normaly again as well the light went off.
Thanks for the replys. What happened was the other day when I got in I had no reverse but still have 1st 2nd and 3rd. I didnt feel it even try to go into gear it acted just like it was in netural. When shifting the few gears I do have it shifts fine...maby a little higer rpm than normal. I thought at first maby it was a cylinoid but I took it to transmission shop to have them hook up to computer and see what they would say and they said the trany was shot. Im by no means an expert, just been doing research. I have been looking for a trany from another 99 but not having any luck thats why I was wondering if I another year or model would be compatible.
Thanks
