Guys-01 Expy leaking freon every 2 weeks so i shot it with some die and traced all the lines and i cannot find anywhere that it is leaking. All the fittings look okay and cannot find the source of the leak.
Where do i go from here? Would an electronic leak tester help me out? I am baffled
Unfortunetly i did, i used the orange glasses and the blacklight however i cannot find a single drop of freon anywhereI would think it would be a preety big leak over 2 weeks.
If it's not the on the outside it must be on the inside. You could have a leak in the evaporator behind the dash or in the back if you have rear air.
Look for signs of dye at the water drain tubes. You may have to dig into the dash or back panels so you can see the evaporator.
Get a long q tip and put it as far in the drain tube(s) as you can and see if you get any dye on the end of it. Also make sure that it's not leaking out of the schrader valves. It could also be leaking right behind the clutch on the compressor and that's pretty tough to spot with DIY type dye kits.
One of the electric "sniffers" is the best way to find this. Problem is they are very expensive the last time I looked at one. You might find a mechanic that would scope it out for a few bucks. That would be a very hard one to track down with the dye stuff.
With leaking evaporators, I have found one that is leaking substantially will often leave a funny odor in the car. Especially when it sits, closed up, for awhile and then you get in it. I don't know how to begin to describe the odor though.
Hey thanks for the suggestions,Well i combed the entire engine and drain tubes but still cannot find the leak., i think i will have a shop diagnose the problem and pray that it is not the evap.I have heard its about 1200.00 to replace and not really a DIY job.
