47 Ford 3/4 ton Truck
Does anyone know where I can find a 17 inch, 5 lug, split rim wheel for my 1947 Ford 1 ton truck? Center hole is 4-3/4"; Lug pattern is 4-1/4" and Stud hole is 7/8".

James, welcome to FTE, hopefully your wheel search will be successful. There are a handful of members here who have these 1 tons. There is no such animal as a '47 3/4 ton. They were dropped after the War until the F series was introduced in '48.
Good luck looking for it, hopefully somebody here can help you out.

There were two 17" rim widths available on the tonner wheels having the 5 x 6 7/8" bolt pattern. One was 3.75" and the other was 4.33". The 3.75" was Budd #44620/Ford #11Y1015B, and the 4.33" was Budd #44630/Ford #11Y1015A. While they both use the Firestone "RH" style outer rim with solid/unbroken locking rings, the rings on these two wheels were not the same part number. The one for the 3.75" rim is Budd #32639E12, and the one for the 4.33" rim is Budd #32639E11. They don't interchange, and every wheel reference I have cautions to not combine non-matching rims and rings.
While you've not said why you need just one wheel, what I've found is that the rims will rust out when allowed to sink into the mud, or develop rust between the disc and the rim around the rivets. Commonly, though, when this happens the outer rings aren't always as badly damaged. I have a similar NOS wheel (different size) and it's pretty clear the "RH" locking ring on that wheel was galvanized or otherwise plated to protect it. If that's your situation you might be able to reuse your ring.
Right now on ebay there is a listing for a NOS 17" tonner wheel having the 5 lug x 6 7/8" pattern. Problem is the wheel doesn't have the locking ring with it, and he doesn't say what the rim width is. If no member steps forward with a good used complete wheel for you, and if your ring is still good, you might quiz the ebay seller about his wheel to see if it would be permissible to combine it with your ring. There should be a Budd part number on the wheel. The rings were numbered too, but they located these along the back edge right where they tend to rust, so it's not often easy to read the ring numbers. Stu
