Transmission stuck in 5th
Just got back from a hunting trip last night and went to run some errands this morning. I pulled into a supermarket parking lot and as I was coming to a stop I felt/heard a bang. I had my window down and thought that it was just the antilock kicking in as I was going over a speed bump. Didn't think anything of it and shut down.
When I went to pull out, I noticed that it was really bogging down. I looked at the gear indicator and it was in 5th. I managed to get on the road and worked the column shifter through the gears as well as the manual buttons. No change, and everytime I tried to shift in manual, the gear indicator would just flash at 5th.
A few minutes later, everything went back to normal. Then, about 5 minutes after that, as I was slowing down to a stop, the truck went bang again and the tranny showed it stuck in 5th again. I was home by then, so I just parked it and shut down.
Because I'm supposed to leave on a Saskatchewan whitetail hunt this Wednesday, I have an appointment to have my truck serviced tomorrow anyway since I figured that it would need an oil change sometime during the 18 hour (each way) round trip between here and Sask.
Regardless of what the dealer finds out, I will probably now go in my buddy's truck since we can't risk being stranded in the middle of nowhere in -25 C temps (before windchill). He has the identical truck to mine except in white, and his has 30,000 kms on it.
Mine has 8,000 kms on it and is a job 2, April 2011 build. The truck was flawless on my trip this past weekend, and this included a 4 hour highway drive home last night. I will let you know what the dealer tells me tomorrow.
