Funny idle

Its very minor but I noticed today that my truck is idling just a little off. In park Idle is fluctuating at maybe a 100 rpm higher and then going back down. But in D at a light idling it changed a little as well. It seems to be running just fine from my little experience with them. It pulls hard out on the highway. Just wondering if there is anything I should check for, just common stuff. Im paranoid that my engine is gonna mess up, I have dreams about it....no bs

One more thing. When I turn the key off with everything off, it sounds like something is humming....like the speakers for the stereo are one but the volume is turned all the way down. Just something else Ive noticed.

No cel or warning lights of any kind. I did notice this after I ran the truck out of fuel though. (yeah, I did that). I also added Lucas diesel treatment like two days ago. Im just trying to just think of things that could pretain to my prior post. Thanks

Inside the fuel res there is a small round opening on the side of the bowl . It is the FPR fuel return screen ..
Look to see if it is clogged with junk .. If it is you can clean it with a Q tip with the fuzzy material removed from the tip ...

Take a look ...

The ICP is a sensor on the front, inboard side of the drivers head.

Also make sure the oil is full, not over due for a change, and doesn't have any oil additives in it. But I would start by checking the FPR since you ran out of fuel.

I just changed the engine oil and filter. I havent checked it since its only 500 miles old at most.

So if I pull the sensor the ICP should be full of oil? I feel like it has to be fuel related. How should I check the FPR? Do they have any inline filters or anything? Ill shim it while Im in there I guess. I hope its not injectors.

Another dumb question. At idle, how are these things supposed to idle anyways? Im all stock at the moment. I dont know anyone else with a early 7.3 powerstroke to compare. It doesnt shake, but just rattles away pretty flatly with a faint shake due to the low idle speed. Thats how I can describe mine.

If I would have had the opportunity , I was going to help you , one test at a time so not to over whelm you ...

Check the FPR screen first , its a cheap test . Then unplug the ICP sensor , (look for oil leaking from it )see if the idle improves . If it does , the cheaper of the 2 tests is to replace the ICP sensor . If that doesn't take care of it , the IPR is next .. Much more expensive ..

Thanks.

Ill clean the FPR filter on the side of the fuel bowl first. Then Ill check the ICP. Hopefully that will do it. Id hate to have to dig any farther with her as Ive just gotten the truck and already put a tranny (which wasnt a bad thing) in it.
