Funny noise in the rear end...

Total guess here, but thinking this MIGHT have something to do with it...will parts off of my 83 F100 fit?

First, there are no "funny" noises in rear ends. Just ugly ones. :-)

Anyway, I'd bet you've found the culprit. Don't know if the F100 brakes are the same as an F150's, but will look at the manual and catalog later today to see what I can find.

I know if your F100 had manual brakes the front rotors are the same and so is the bolt pattern. So I would figure the rears would be the same. Now if your F100 had power brakes it had a smaller rotor and smaller bolt pattern. That is about as much as I know. You could always compare parts.

Go to, say Rock Auto's web site, look up the same components for two different trucks and see if they're the same part numbers.

Totally correct. If the F100 has the 4.5" bolt pattern wheels, then the rear brakes are 10" and everything is different. If, on the other hand, the F100 has the 5.5" bolt pattern it will have the 11" rear brakes, and everything is the same.

By golly, it has the 5.5. If it didn't have the lighter duty rear end I would swap the whole thing.
