I have a 83 f100 that I recently installed a 31 spine 9" rear from a 85 f150 ex-cab. The brake drums are making a god-awful shimmy when the brakes are applied, so instead of buying new drums, I'd like to upgrade to a disc-brake setup. I have a 79 lincoln continental donor that already has the parts I need, but will the rotors fit on the truck, e.g. are the bolt patterns the same. Also, are there any other parts I need to rob off of the big lincoln?
if your truck is 2wd why not just swap in the whole rear end any way the bolt pattern should be the same be sure to take everything off like calipers and the brake hoses the only thing im not to sure about is the e-brake cables ant way good luck and let us know how it goes
LAST EDITED ON 20-Mar-01 AT 08:43 PM (EST)[p]here's an easy solution to your question, throw your spare tire off the truck onto the axle with the disc brakes on it
if the wheel fits, bingo you got a match
if it doesn't fit, try snagging the axle stems out of the truck axle and getting the disc brake setup to mount on them, I think I'm just talking out of my a$$ on this one, but I did just install a turbo coupe rear axle with disc brakes onto my brothers mustang that had drum brakes
We ended up taking both axles to a mustang performance shop and had them transfer the lower arm mounts from the original axle over to the turbo coupes axle, and that gave us enough to work with, the rear tires are closer to sticking out the sides than they used to be, especially when the 26.5x10.5R15 slicks are on the puppy, we haven't managed to get the rear brakes working yet, but that will probably be this weekends project, my brother has a CISCO exam this saterday so that whole day is out, maybe get it done sunday, and take it to the strip on wednesday nite at sears point
Yeah, I know all about that thing called time, spent enough of it on the old stang finally got it done and painted though now its time for the '40 Check it out "its finally time" general conversation. Later, John
