Lift problem

Hey i have a problem that hopefully one of you guys with a lift will be able to answer. I have an 88 f250 with a 5 speed and it has a 3 inch body lift on it. I am not the one who put the lift on. The problem is that the shifter in the cab now hits the cab floor. It still shifts fine but the gaurd that covers up the space around the shifter wont fit in the cab floor because when it was lifted the body moved up 3 inches and the shifter stayed where it was. So i can see all the way to the ground. Im sure somebody has had this problem before. If you know what to do to fix this let me know.Thanks.

I took the boot off mine, and cut the floor for it to clear. I then pop rivited a patch on the other side to close the gap, then reinstalled the boot

I was thinking about bolting a bracket on the shifter to get it back in its origanal position. Would that work or whould it effect the way i would have to shift.

That would probably change the shift angle, and wear out something, or make it hard to shift, Worth a try I guess, as long as it can be reversed if it don't work out.

You also have to watch how close you get to the dash, I used to smash my fingers until I got used to wher the shifter ended up after the lift

I dont really want to mess with that. How did cutting out the floor work for you? Can you even tell. That sounds easier anyway.

There should been a 3 inch spacer that needs to be welded on to the existing shifter. Should have been with the body lift kit.

Like i said i didnt put the lift on so i guess the guy who did forgot to do that. That should be relativeley easy to do though considering i am a welder. Thanks for the info.

It is simple. You should beable to find a round metal about the same diameter. Cut the shifter in half and pencil grind the tips and weld in the spacer. Should take no longer than acouple of hours at the most.

Yup, pretty simple fix. Take your shifter out, chop it, cut some round-stock (of the same diameter) at 3", weld in the extension.

It's been like that for 22 years. Never had a problem with it.
