Sandblasting my frame without removing the brake lines.

Can I safely blast my frame without removing my brake lines? Is there something I can cover them with or tape them with and just blast around them?

I know it would be a better job if I removed them but I'm just trying to figure out my options.

I wouldn't risk it. One small grain of sand stuck in a wheel cylinder...
An ounce of prevention, etc, etc.

Good point about prevention. I'm afraid that if I remove them, I'll have to replace them because they're getting old. I guess maybe that means I should replace them anyway.

Here's a related question. What about blasting a steel wheel without removing the tire?

Ken -

As long as your careful in removing the break lines and you haven't had any problems with them, I don't see why you'd have to replace them. We removed the lines from the '86 Mustang doner and put them in the '41 with no breakage or problems. Patience is the key.

As for blasting the rims with the tires on, shouldn't be a problem. What I did was used masking tape to tape off the rubber and used my fingernail to tuck it a little behind where the rim/tire meet.

Thanks Carlene. Maybe I'll give it a try then. They're on my old 77 and I'm not sure how rusted/corroded everything is going to be though.

Good news on the tire/wheel blasting too.

Thanks.
