Good point about prevention. I'm afraid that if I remove them, I'll have to replace them because they're getting old. I guess maybe that means I should replace them anyway.

As long as your careful in removing the break lines and you haven't had any problems with them, I don't see why you'd have to replace them. We removed the lines from the '86 Mustang doner and put them in the '41 with no breakage or problems. Patience is the key.
As for blasting the rims with the tires on, shouldn't be a problem. What I did was used masking tape to tape off the rubber and used my fingernail to tuck it a little behind where the rim/tire meet.
