I was wondering what MPG's you guys are seeing with the 4.30 rears and six speed trans. I've always had 3.73's in my F-250's and 350's. Also, what MPG's are you seeing when towing? I have a 39' Raptor that weighs in at 13,300 dry/18,500 loaded with 3,500lbs pin weight.
I just left the dealership to sleep on the deal that we worked on a F-450 Lariat Ultimate FX4 with all the goodies. How does $62,745 sound to you guys?
One last question, are you happy with yours? Why or why not?
9.5 to 10 towing 19,000 lb triple axle in my sig at 60 -65 mph.
I'm very happy with this truck. I traded in a 2006 F-350 KR. There is no comparison between the two. The F350 squatted about 8 inches under my pin weight, the F-450 about 1 1/2 inch. And power! I came across I-64 out of Norfolk, down I-81 to Knoxville, then up through Kentucky on I-75 towing. I didn't find any hill that I couldn't pull at 60-65 mph. I'm looking forward to taking this rig out west and finding some big hills!
I've had one problem with this truck after 7000 miles, about 3000 of that towing the trailer. DW was "smelling something funny" after about 1500 miles. Took it to a dealer to have the exhaust system checked. They found nothing and the smell disappeared about 1000 miles later.
DEF needed a drink at about 4000 miles, took it to a dealership in Sioux Falls - first fill was free. I'm still waiting for the oil change and filter warnings to pop up.

That's good stuff glsurratt! Wonder what the smell was?

Tom, $67,745 is MSRP. I agree, it's still way too close to MSRP (part of the reason we decided to sleep on it and why I've asked for opinions here). This is my fourth Ford from this dealership...I'm not getting the warm and fuzzy so far. I asked them to throw in a premium maintenance plan and exterior treatment with this price and they declined. Then they let us get up and walk out even after telling me how slow they've been.

For the record, I got $6K off MSRP on my 2011 when I bought it back in July 2010. 3 months after release I was able to get a great deal. After tax, title, and license I paid around $49K for it.
So if this figure is with TTL it's not a bad deal, just not a very good one. If tax, title, and license is added onto this figure it's not even worth consideration.
My F450 was closer to $75 before X plan discount. Mileage has averaged about 17 over the last 35K miles with the 4.30 gears. No significant towing mileage numbers yet.
You can get actual dealer cost versus MSRP and go from there. The deal they're offering doesn't sound stellar, IMO. I'd shop them against a couple of other dealerships and see what you can come up with. Is the truck a 2011 or a 2012? If it's an '11, that definitely is not a very good deal.

This website if accurate sure makes it look like I'm not working very hard at this deal. The truck that we spec'd last night was 2012. This will help me. Thanks powerstroke72!
5800 mile trip, Wa, Id, Ut, Co, Nm, Tx, Ok, Ak,to Mo back thru Iwoa, Sd Mt, Id, Wa to BC. Interstate and secondary roads. 9.7 avg on the trip computor. Large slide in camper, towing a eclosed trailer with a car in it.
22520 Lbs,total on a Cat certified scale. My 7.3 dually with 3:73 got 10.5 - 11.5 same load. BUT the pleasure of the way this truck goes over the grades with only a shift to 5th gear sometimes,.......and the quiet makes it well worth the extra bit of fuel. My '01 7.3 was wonderful truck but this is much nicer when you are using it for what is was built for!
11500 K on the truck, no problems. Late May build.
My 450 got around 11.5 city and 15.6 hwy (up to 16 once when I kept it around 60 mph). These numbers are running empty. If any thing seems like you might get even better mpg with the 4.30 if your hauling that much weight. Obviously there geared more for towing then empty hence why they use them in the 450s. My 350 with a 3.73s is getting 9.5 city/empty. But only got 300 miles on it so too early to tell.

Yeah, you're not even close to breaking it in yet. I really struggled between the 350 dually and the 450. My hopes are exactly what you said. I was anywhere from 7 to 9.5 depending on where we were. Sea level 7-8, Wyoming and Colorado was 8.5-9.5. I know a lot of guys like to run 75-80 with their 5th wheels, but with this much weight, I'm good at 60ish.
My best mileage readings when I was playing with the dash display were at lower altitudes and on secondary highways, as high as 11.5 - 12.5 Windy conditions make a huge differnce, in Sd and Mt saw lows of 7-8 Mpg. Also My slide in camper front is about as aerodynamic as a building. It's hard to do 55-60 on an interstate for optimun mileage when the limits are 70,75 and 80 and folks are screaming past you like you are parked and the truck will cruise with ease safely at 70.
My main reason for the 450 was the turning radius, the advantage is huge in tight spots. All just my 2 cents worth.
Only slight gripe is dipstick location, I'm 5-11 and it a streach while at the same time leaning on all the smashed insects on the grille surround. Less than 5-11 must be really fun!
In short, order yourself a truck you will love it!!
