Body Assembly Help

I have read that when you reassemble the front fenders on an f100 (54), there should be a bead of material on the outside edge of the air deflectors and on the front part of the cab where the fenders touch. The book says to use body filler, but I don't happen to have any. Can I use a bead of silicone instead? I'm just looking for a seal to make sure they don't squeek. Maybe the silicone won't hold up. Has anybody tried this? If it's going to cause a problem, I'll knuckle down and buy some body filler. Any other suggestions? Thanks, John

I believe what you are refering to is called strip caulking. It comes in a box and is comprised of 50 or so strips of caulking. I use it when installing tail lights and fenders. Check at a body shop supply store or get a 3M catalogue.

Thanks for the reply, but I was ready to mount the fenders, so hearing no suggestions, had to go with my best idea. I bought a tube of rubberized roofing compound and applied it on the contact areas. It came out wet, but dried to a tar-like consistancy. I hope it holds up. So far it looks good. Thanks again, John
