So, after putting new tires on my truck about 2 years, I noticed a slight shake when I drove at about 90kph. I let it go for quite some time thinking it was just a balance issue.
Well this weekend I spent 7 hours washing, waxing, and polishing my truck. It was worth. The rims reflect the moonlight now. It's amazing. During this washing, I scrubbed in behind the spokes of the rims. I found a big chunk of mud. Well surprise surprise, my shake at 90kph went away... or so I thought.
I no longer have the shake when driving at 90 or accelerating through 90kph like I used to. Now I have the shake when I let off the gas at 100 and drop to 80kph. It shakes at 95 through 90, and then goes away.
What is causing this? The parking brake is never used, and is showing no signs of engaging while driving. Is this a driveshaft issue?
Now that you have that mud cleared out I would take it and get the wheels balanced and aligned and see what happens. Also look over the tires and make sure none of them ended up wearing uneven. Start with the easier stuff and work backwards. The other shake could have loosened a few things to so crawl under the truck and shake some things gently and see if everything feels as it should.
When I bought my 07 used from a dealership, someone had installed 2010 wheels/tires on it. At hwy speeds it had a horrible vibration. After living with it for a month I finally took it to a Discount Tire and the salesman there noticed the odd wear on the tires and said "yep, there're out of balance" After they rebalanced them it rode smooth. Makes me wonder what the 2010 truck rode like.... I'd def get them rebalanced. Might as well rotate them too.
I had a similar issue with the shakes after getting new tires on my truck. Somehow my left rear brake caliper got warped. Replaced it and it went away.
