Can anyone recommend a good book on the principals of a diesel engine? I'd like to read up on more than just the basics, so I can understand whats going on in my truck. I have a 7.3 so if there is a good one specific to that motor I would be interested in that as well.
The 7.3 is having principals on its own. Per my knowledge no other engine is using motor oil high pressure for fuel injection. Did you try Wikipedia? Also 7.3 section has plenty of informations.

I'm not really looking for the wiki-style information. Which is mostly "Has this feature. Came from this history." I am looking for "Part A comingles with Part B to create this effect which is used by Engine component Q"
If that makes sense haha. I am interested in the working of the motors, not how they are unique and fun WIKI facts..
DI Power stroke had "single shot" HEUI (hydraulically actuated electronic unit injection) fuel injectors and ran a 15° high pressure oil pump (HPOP) to create the necessary oil pressure to fire the fuel injectors
In 1993, the Environmental Protection Agency
mandated that diesel fuel should contain no more than 500 ppm of sulfur. This was a
factor of 10 reduction in sulfur level and greatly reduced sulfur as a source of exhaust
particulate. In 2006, the EPA has mandated a new reduction in sulfur to 15 ppm. This
will eliminate sulfur as a component of exhaust particulate and allow the introduction of
catalytic aftertreatment for diesel engines. Sulfur is a powerful catalyst poison and limits
the options available for controlling emissions on future engines
Thats pretty much what I am looking for, only on a more in depth kinda way, if said thing exists. That paper was a very good "diesel basics" read. I would like to find one on the 7.3 if I can. Perhaps a tech book on the 7.3.
