So im looking at a '97 F-350XL reg cab 5.8 A/T 3.55 new 305/75R16s i forget what brand i think they were Coopers... it has 75,000 miles on it the guy said that he bought it from a widow and it sat for a few years b4 he got it that was 2yrs ago so last year he pulled the motor and put all new gaskets in it... the body is it pretty good shape for being from PA there is just some surface rust and the wheel wells are just starting to bubble... the guy said it isnt the original paint so i checked for a door sticker and there was 1 saying the truck was wearing LE paint but now it also wearing what looks like to be YZ white for its two-tone with a ford style pin stripes but its two tone gray ones instead of the stripes that match the color of the truck but anyhow it shows no sign of being wrecked... uhm the under neath is nice as well thats pretty much all i know right now... tell me what u think thanks oh ya i forgot 2 mention he's asking $5,000....
I think its just a little suspect that its been repainted with only "75,000" miles..
As far as the 5.8l first it sounds strange to have to pull and re-gasket the motor with that low of miles...if your not towing alot the motor is capable or can be modded to be so..
If everything is kosher and you like the truck the price is up to you.....I would pay that for a clean truck of that description... Although 4500 would be better..
Honestly its not worth it if you ask me. First off, you didn't mention 2wd or 4wd. I wouldn't get a f350 with only a 5.8L I'd wait out for either a 460 or a 7.3. I've seen a few 4wd 95-97 F350 Diesels go for that price. And an XL?!! Def pass on that price. maybe 3 grand if its only 2wd and 4 tops with 4wd mint condition. I may have different standards but you could do better then your description for 5 grand.

well it doesn't seem that the whole truck was repainted theres no sign of it i just think the original owner didn't like the one solid color so he added the white paint in the center.... because when ppl repaint their trucks the door sticker usually goes but in this case its still there and the paint code is LE which is the blue the most of the truck is painted i know the shade b/c thats the same color as my brothers....
anyhow ya i thought the whole motor thing was weird to but i guess since the truck sat a few years he didnt want to run the risk of them going bad while he was driving it but idk.....
and the price is why i asked the question i wasn't sure what to pay i was hopping someone could help me decide...
I'm with you on this. If it's getting "bubbly rust" , then it's likely ready to blow out and look really ugly. Yes, there was no reason to pull the motor(with only 75K miles) and regasket it. What really was wrong with it?
How does the frame look? Usually they turn to crap pretty quick and if it's been repainted and rusting then likely the chassis looks bad. Check the rear spring perches and front radius arm mounts.
$5K is probably a bit high, though being a 1 ton it might be worth it? It would have to be pretty nice. If it's rough around the edges, then $3500 is closer. Like mentioned, it's all in what you think it's worth.

haha ya i forgot to mention that YES it is a 4x4 i would nvr buy a 4x2 for a DD the only time i ever owned one was when they where given to me for part or to demo haha but i would nvr pay anything for a 4x2 unless i was getting it cheap and just for parts.... and the 5.8L was the whole reason i was a little leery well a big 1 anyhow i have 1 in my F-150 and i think its just not enough sometimes

the frame is really nice about 90% of the paint is there and has all the original hanger which is good for being a PA truck... there is not radius arm mounts because its leaf sprung since its a 4X4..
Just unloaded a F350 4wd 7.3 rot box/slipping tranny with 113K on the clock for 2500. So mint Id say out of PA... that it was stored, as said. Even with the repaint the road salt would have got her good by now. Sounds good if it all checks out to me. Edit: I was referring to just the truck not its price. 5K is a lil high for the 5.8

well the f350 weighs a LOT more than the f150 and requires more power to just move the truck than the f150.
so if you think it was not enough in the f150,then don't get one in the f350,or you wont be happy.
pass this on by,since it's not exactly a good deal anyway and keep your eyes out for the 7.3l diesel.that WILL make you smile.
