I was going to get my truck painted next summer but due to some unexpected events i have decided to get it done this winter. I have a 1979 F 150. It is currently white and has a black and brown stripe on it that my dad put on it after he bought it from the dealership. It is in pretty good shape. I was thinking of going with a two tone paint job. I was thinking black and dark shadow grey with either chrome trim or a pin stripe flame off of a harley davidson f 150 seperating the colors. I think this would look great and i really like the harley davidson pinstriped flame decal (or w/e u wanna call it). I also like the dark shadow grey and i have seen it on many mustangs and i like how it looks. I was wondering what ur opinions on this paint job would be plus if u have any suggestions. I am a little afraid of the black paint showing flaws but i cant think of another color that would go along with what i want. It is not going to be a show truck but it is going to be pretty close. This pickup is my pride and joy. All opinions are appreciated. Thanks
Black is a tough color to keep looking clean. But on the other hand, I have also thought about that paint on our next project, it would probably look great. Do go with the chrome trim instead of flames.
You can also check out the galleries for differant paint schemes.
Best choice...........Original stock white color would look great!
All,
I have always thought the two-tone paint scheme in these trucks is the way to go.
The ultra classic color, to me, is the metallic blue with the silver in-lay. The race track trim is a sign of a well kept truck and a sign of somebody who knows and respects the 73-79 body style. Don't get me wrong, you can customize your truck all day long. I think that's great. I wouldn't buy it though. Keep it original, don't butcher it, and you'll sell it for all it's worth, and you'll sell it quick.
Consider it,

Well that is one thing i wont ever have to worry about because i wont ever sell it. My dad brought it brand new and it has been sitting for a few years until i was able to start driving it. I am not going to butcher it i want to keep it looking like a nice classic but with a little bit of something extra. I think the pinstripe flame looks nice and it is not a huge thing. It is a strip that goes down the side into a suttle flame. The truck has no chrome trim on it at all. There is already a mettalic blue/ silver ford truck in town so i wanted to go a little different route. I am still considering keeping it white.
I have a 77 that is going to be metalic emerald green on the bottom and high gloss jet black on the hood and roof with a touch on the box top rails. And then there is going to be a painted on gold leaf metalic pinstripe in between the green and the blue. Do yourself a favor and go check out some old Hotwheels they have the best paint combonations go outside the box you know WILD not mild. And oh yes it will be all clear coated.
Since you appreciate opinions, here is mine. It sounds good, but I would spray paint it. No clear coat, though. Cheap way to liven up an old truck
I'd hafta say I'm with him. I got an old city truck that was bright yellow. I went to Lowes and picked up a gallon of black exterior paint. Brush and rollered it on. I'm really cheap though. I try to make whatever I can afford look as good as it can.
yea but if you want a shine to the paint and you wanna go cheap use an acrylic paint and buff the hell out of it, stay away from doing a rattle can job, thats just sloppy lookin, OR, go Macco its fairly cheap and it will look decent as long as you care for it
Well i think i am going to end up painting it white. I still plan on putting the harley pinstripe flame on it but havent decided on a color yet. There are just so many colors to choose from. I think i will end up ordering some samples and then go from there. I will keep ya posted as everything goes along. Keep your opinions coming i really appreciate them.
