Coolant Change?

When I bought my truck a few guys on here told me to change my coolant. I never really thought anything of it, but now I'm thinking I should ask more.

I noticed its not as easy as my old F150 where I could just add some prestone.

I believe there are different types of coolants and additives and such. Basically I have not touched the cooling system since I bought the truck. Is there a way to check to see if I should change it, and if I should what are the steps? Is it just like on my F150?

You can do a search for Gooch coolant flush & it's full of good info on the different coolants. Seems like most go with the ELC so you don't have to worry with the SCA additive that needs to be checked with test strips regularly

Well I just realized I'm about an inch below my cold fill line. So I'll try to get to it this week or the weekend.

I'm planning on doing mine the soon as I get the money together for a bypass filter.

Hopefully this week, gonna go with CAT ELC, and do the full flush/wash/rinse, fill up with the ELC, and as long as everything is kosher, in with the bypass filter!

I plan on a full flush also. But I just found a problem elsewhere in the engine compartment that needs immediate fixing, so that is coming first. (see new thread called Routine Engine Compartment Check...)
