Thinking of replacing T-stat or Housing? Read this

Today I flushed my coolant and installed my DieselSite coolant filter. But I also had to replaced my waterpump

I was in the process of taking out the thermostat the three 6X1.0 bolts for the thermostat housing either busted or stripped out (stipped)due to the 1/4" drive deepwell craftsman socket cracking). This happens because the person before failed to put antiseize on the threads before installation. steel to aluminum dont mix. I considered taking the alt and PS bracket off, reaming and tapping bigger, but I did have shaft play so I just installed a new waterpump. Very easy to replace the waterpump. Hardest part was getting the fan threaded back on! (use a air chiesel to take it off)

Just a warning to anyone considering replacing just the tstat and dieselsite tstat housing, be prepared! Again, 6x1.0 metric bolts dont bother going to a supply store, just go to advanced auto or similar chain store and they will have a FLANGED bolt!

I think ford normally keeps them as a set of three for that very reason. I purchased them when I went to change mine after Rick (millerfeed) warned me!

Also, you will run into rubbing issues with the dieselsite coolant filter and the upper radiator hose that goes around the belt. I have the stock battery box and it hits on both the hose and box. Filter head gets pretty hot so we will see what it does to the hose.

I just cut a piece from my old hose to put on the existing hose by the filter.

Ummm.... wouldn't that just be the same temperature as the coolant already inside the hose?

You have a good point there. I guess there might be a slight rubbing issue over time. Probably splitting hairs over that one though.

yes, but the aluminum seemed a little hotter than the filter and hoses.
