Knock Sensor

I am putting back together my 91 F150 302 / E4OD, after replacing the head gasket. When doing the tear down, I found the KNOCK SENSOR was melted in half. I now have two pieces and the wires inside the sensor are melted. And my local auto parts store doesn't have a listing for the knock sensor.

My question is do I need this sensor or is there a way to put everything back together without it? And the truck still run without much problems?

You don't need it, if the truck ran fine without before you found it destroyed. This has been covered many times. Mine is the same way. I left it in and put wire caps on the wires from the harness. If you do a search, this was cover several months ago and was lengthy in Posts. General consesnus was you don't need it, but for $35 or so $$$'s you can get a new one. Need to get th right color code from the sensor if possible IIRC.

Thanks man... It ran good before the head gasket blew, and the way the sensor looks it's been melted for a while.

So I am going to put a plug in the hole in the block and cap the wiring as you suggested! Thanks for all your help, it's greatly appreciated.

Knock sensor retards timing 4 degrees if senses knocking. As long as you are not expierencing any knock you should be fine. The trucks are the only 5.0's that used the knock sensor. I am guessing because of the potential for knocking with heavy loads.
