now, first off, i freakin love my new 6.7, but, from what i read on this site prior to buying it, was fuel mileage, everyone seems to get around 16 in the city, Mine only has about three hundred miles on it, but i am only getting 13 mpg around town, and im not using a lead foot either, although, i did take it today on the interstate to a city about an hour away, set the cruise at 68 , and got from the dash anyhow, about 19 miles to a gallon, which i think is really great, but am hoping that it will improve in the city, what do you guys think ? needs broke in? or winter fuel ? I also noticed today that it read on the lcd that is was doing a regen, didnt seem to notice any difference in performance or for that matter when it was done, buy the way, the regen was at 258 miles, can anyone give me any imput on my questions ? thanks guys, and for never owning a diesel before, i am impressed as hell of the power and how nice it drives, like a dream, as for 3.95 a gallon, that just sucks...lol
I have 4400 miles on my truck w/ an avg. City and Hwy MPG of 15.7. This is about 40 percent Merro driving. I expect better once we get away from winter blend
You've only got 3 hundred and some odd miles and you've already had a regen? I've got almost 3800 on mine and it's never gone through a regen yet.
yes, it showed up on the screen today on the way home from work, said it was cleaning exaust , now im comfused, i thought on here they said it did it every tank full?
The regen is dependent on driving and idling conditions. I have seen regens at 250 miles and the dealer told me that when he reflashed the 400/800 he had looked at my regens. One was over 800 miles.
xrated
Unless all 3800 miles of driving was heavily loaded highway miles, you have likely missed several regen messages. It only flashes for a couple of seconds and it's gone. I have certainly missed far more "cleaning..." messages than I have seen in the 22000 miles I have on the truck.

Mine was getting around 15mpg city when it was new, now with about 12k miles the instant mpg is up 17.5. It gets better with age...
I have 6200 miles 331 gears crew cab long box and get 17 at around 70 on the freeway and almost the same with a mixture of town and country driving. This is with winter fuel and hand figured. I find my computer tells me I get better mileage than I actually do. I am told the mileage will get better after I have more miles on the truck and also better with summer fuel. I don't think that is too bad with the horsepower and torque these engines have.
I only get 13mpg in mine. I have 4200 miles on my crew cab 4wd 3.55 truck. I haven't reset the trip meter cence i bought the truck and it shows i avg. 13.2 mpg for all 4200 miles.
My salesman says there is some thing wrong but the service guy tells me that everything checks out ok.
Two comments y'all:
1) I think with the new flash these trucks do a forced regen at 250 miles regardless of soot levels to help "break in" the DPF and DOC. After that it is initiated by the soot sensor located in the DPF and therefore is dependent on driving style and load.
2) I have around 2500 miles on my new girl. A few weeks ago I decided to get her hot. Luckily I live in the susquahanna valley and I took a long drive through the mountains with up and down grades of 8% or better. It gave me a chance to force downshifts using tow-haul mode and forced the engine to engine-brake at over 3000 rpm on the down grades and pull 2500 rpms on the upgrades (no trailer since it is still snowed in at the time). After that weekend, I saw mpgs improve nearly 15% while still on winter fuel and I can seem to "feel" that the entire drivetrain is smoother.
I strongly recommend that after you get that 1000 miles of easy driving go find a way to seat the rings properly and break the edges off of the transmission gears. Get that baby hot! I think you will notice a nice improvement. I now get 20mpg+ in pure highway driving (unloaded) and ~17 mpg in mixed driving (20/80 city/highway) all on winter fuel (lifetime average mpg is at 16.8 according to the computer)
I bought my F-250 with a 3.31 rear-end in mid September and now have 7500 miles to date and no problems except starting to feel a draft around the drivers door.. God I love this Truck. Everything is stock except a hard cover on my bed.. I get 17.9 to 18.3 around town reading my dash meter which is not that far off on my truck. My town driving is pretty lite just getting to the freeway. On a short trip 25 miles my mileage will come up from 17.9tp 18.3 to around 20 to 21 mpg by the dash meter... On longer trips of over 400 miles i have been getting 22 to 23 at 70-75. The best I have gotten was about 2000 miles ago was 25 MPG at 55 on night for 50 miles with no hills or wind, just to see what the best I could get with no wind or hills. I think I could beat that now under the same conditions. I haven't towed with it yet, waiting on warmer weather to go camping with my RV TT...
Thanks for all the good posts!

Diesel fuel comes in two main formulations from the refineries. Diesel #1 and diesel #2. As a distillate of petroleum, diesel #1 is arrives at a lower temperature and is therefore "lighter" or more liquid than diesel #2. Diesel #2 is just heavy enough that it can solidify or "gel" when ambient temps drop below freezing during the winter. Since frozen diesel #2 in your fuel tank is a bad thing, refineries mix #1 with #2 to lower the gel temp during the winter. When all risk of cold temps is gone in the spring, the refineries stop mixing the diesel products and dispense pure diesel #2 for summer use. The irony is that diesel #1 is more expensive and contains less energy content than #2. This is one of the reasons people complain that their mileage drops in the winter. So, at the end of the day, you pay more and get less during the winter months.
