Programmer to read stock truck, no custom tunes??
I want to buy a programmer to read as much as possible on truck including codes, temps ect. I dont want any custom tunes on it. Just something i can use to diagnose problems and read codes and temp. What should i buy that will do as much of this as possible. Ive been told previously to get the sct X3 but dont know if it too much machine for what i want to do. Sorry if this sounds dumb.

For that price you might as well get the auto enginuity computer program with the Ford specific software. This will allow you to conduct data logging scanning codes and just about anything else you might want to do.

scan gauge ll is what you are looking for. Runs less than $200 Max available thru autozone, some websites.
Can display 4 values of choice at a time selected individually. Got mine to monitor engine oil and coolant temps, monitor battery voltage trans temp will also give speed readout which may vary from the indicated at the needle!

The ODBII port gives whatever is connected to it
whatever is available from the CPU - subject to the device being able to "retrieve" it (ie: ford specific ids require ford specific knowledge, and there are more that only the ford techs can access)
Now, AE/DashDaq/Edge can be ordered with "ford specific" add-ons which will give you even more data to look at (not necessarily the same as the ford techs have though)
But, if you are looking to just read the basic "gauge" type things the ScangaugeII is best/cheapest for the 6.0
It'll let you monitor EOT & TFT in addition to the normal* ODBII things. You can manually cycle through ALL sensors, but it's screen only can display 4 values @ once.
*NOTE: Depending upon your model (F250 vs. Excursion) & year a few "gauges" aren't necessarily available: ie: turbo boost and voltage
ODBII doesn't offer fuel pressure or Exhaust Gas Temp.
so, you'd need to add your own sensors and analog gauges. There are EDGE models which allow you to add-on external sensors - which could be handy.

I currently have two different code readers, one nice $200.00 unit, and one I have had forever that I paid around $100.00 for.
While screwing around with my Droid phone I came across an App called Torque.. (IPhone has the same thing by the same designer called REV).
There is a free version and a pay version (runs $4.95 for droid) that does everything you are asking and more. Plus I do not have to have a large hand held unit and cable running around the drivers compartment.
I did a ton of research, read a bunch of reviews and finally decided to go with the XiTech OBDII Bluetooth connector for $49.00.
The cool part is, you can use this with your computer if it has Bluetooth built in or you can pick up a little USB bluetooth adapter from any store for around $15.00.
Apparently, when using this, you can still use your phone to make calls and receive them, it just pauses the data feed.
Here is a link to the thread on here about it...

I am waiting for the Bluetooth connector to arrive tomorrow, I will keep you posted on what I find out...

Looks that way,
I have contacted the product developer for droid and asked them to include a EOT monitor...
this would give you, ECT, EOT, Trans, Boost, Fuel Press and HP readings all on one screen, (this is how I have mine set up.) I also have a screen that displays an accelerometer, 1/4 mile, 1/8mile and 0-60
You have the option to do Dial gauges, Digital or graph, edit skins (background pics) build customs screens. input engine size and monitor estimated MPG and realtime MPG based off the weight of the vehicle that you input... all this is drawn from the vehicles computer.
the maps that you use are google earth based maps as well.
again, this thing has great reviews and has been out for a while and is updated regularly.

You also have the ability to upload the GPS and OBD data to a webserver when using so that if/when you have a code pop up, you know, where, when and the exact driving conditions when fault occured.
Alerts you to safety conditions, ICE, Low FUEL, if supported by ECU, Verbal Alarms and you can create alarms as well.
Sorry to keep adding info, but as I learn more about the App, I will try to post...
