Black soot and grime on front driver's side shock?

Im always finding grime and soot on my front driver's side shock, should I be concerned about this. Just checking in to see if this is normal or not. Thank you.

Black soot, like what is on the exhaust pipe tip? If so, you may want to look for a leaking or cracked exhaust manifold on that side.

Might need to install manifold gaskets. I had to install them on my rig about 4 months ago. Manifolds weren't cracked. 6.0s don't come with manifold gaskets, and they're prone to start leaking over time. Crawl under the truck after its cold, and and have someone nail the throttle. If you have an exhaust leak, it should be obvious.

Just do the side that's bad, if you're handy you can tackle the job.

Im going into this pretty much blind, If anyone gets this message on time and you know of a site where i can get a little direction or a visual it would be great. If not no worries im going to operate anyways. Already spend two grand on my truck so far this year, i really dont want to contribute more money to my dealership.

I think you would be well advised to liberally spray all the manifold bolts with a good penetrating lubricant (PB Blaster, Kroil Oil) before you try to take anything apart. Do this a day in advance of doing the work, and do it a couple of times. I like to do it with the manifolds warm (not hot) in the hope that as the manifold cools it will help draw the lubricant into the bolts and nuts more. It should ease the labor involved.. Good luck

Not gonna hurt anything. Just a PIA. I did it back in Nov cause I was sucking exhaust through the heater.

quick update, I went on a drive with the ford mechanic from the dealership and he told me it was my turbo that was making that sound. Said that the vein might be sticking or something like that. This noise is driving me crazy. Should i pull the turbo and clean it? maybe it will help the whistling sound go away?
